BBC News - Why do mornings still get darker after the winter solstice?

At last, who cares about sunrise/sunset the daylight hours will be getting longer, yes slowly at first but gradually speeding up. We in the northern hemisphere will have gained and extra hour by the end of January and it will be most welcome.

I quite like the dark evenings, but then I like every season. Happy winter solstice everyone

Happy Solstice lovely Grapes! Anyone remember this 1976 classic from Jethro Tull? It's really rather good...

Yes, one of my favourite seasonal songs, this; along with Mike Oldfield's In Dulci Jubilo.

Did not realise that at the Solstice (which happened at 11 pm last night) the sun stops above the Tropic of Capricorn and then reverses (from us earthlings' point of view, that is). Insanely excited now!
