  • The wrappers in Quality Street

Hi all, my first post and its a seasonal one. As I am sat here with a tub of Quality Street in front of me I seem to recall a few years ago that the wrappers where changed to be bio degradable/compostable.
Does anyone know if thats still the case, I can find news items from a few years ago but nothing up to date.
    Thanks for a great forum.

They say they are made from something like natural celulose fiber..... so they say they are safe to compost, if they are.....who knows!
they say they are.....so they must have tested it!, the world will find out eventually..... when either we dont die or we do from eating plants grown on compost containing it

After all....you can make plastic from most plant based materials and it is still plastic....Nitrocellulose as used for over a century in things like cinema film ,rayon fabric, ping pong balls and snooker balls is made from cotton or wood....doesnt make it bio-degradeable and safe for the compost heap...

Personally I would favour EDIBLE wrappers!

My favourites are the pink fudge ones. Followed by the blue coconut. It works well, the rest of the family don't like these

Why is it every year they go and mess with the colours, so what I thought was a tough chewy toffee has become a soft gooey yucky.
I curse those choccy manufacturers, bring back the opal fruits and the marathon though I didn't like that much...! nuts and chocolate are food of the devil.
While a curly whirly was definitely bigger as a kid, and I had big hands so I should know.

If you are following my ramblings, then you also need 40 winks. zzzzzzzzzzzz.

I once was sent something in a "window" envelope which had writing on it saying that the plastic window was biodegradable and could be composted. I therefore shredded it along with the envelope and added it to the compost bin. That was about 5 years ago, and I am still pulling shreds of plastic out of my soil which look identical to the ones that went into the compost.

                I wouldn't risk it personally.

Spangles.... Now there is a name from the past. And in them days all wrappers went onto the fire back and the fire used for boiling a kettle and for toasting bread and the ashes were used on frozen and snowy paths.... soot from the chimney went onto the garden. Nowt got wasted when i were lad. Now can i go back to sleep.

It probably is degradeable Penellype but, in terms of millennia rather than seasons.

oooh, I loved a spangle me, the closest you can get to their appearance these days are tunes. Don't taste the same though. I loved the fact you could turn them into square polo's if given enough sucking time.

Polo's now there's a con, make you pay for the hole they do.

Do you remember candy cigarettes, them were the days. puffing on a bit of sugary goodness.

You could get chocolate ones an all but, they tasted nasty.
