Running after Shipo's horse's with a bucket and shovel for Dad's rose.

Needing four old pennies to make a phone call. Press button 'A' to connect or button 'B' to get your coppers back.

I did some work for a couple a few years back that had a huge back garden 3-4 acres and he didn't go in for mobile technology, so he had installed 4 red phone boxes around the garden which were connected to his main incoming line. He'd often say having answered the phone, give me a sec I need to take me gloves off.

Bet you still like it Mikey

Life before TV and fridges and readymade meals and supermarkets, and selfservice!

Butter cut from a slab, those metal money things on wires that whizzed around the ceiling of the shop to the cashier's office at the back. The cashier took your money out, put the change in the whizzy thing and sent it back to the shop assistant who gave you your change. Slow shopping, wonderful, with a seat for you to rest on while you were served.

Only one, then two tv channels with limited hours. The test card at other times and tv going off by midnight and playing the national anthem as it went.

The tv itself, big box...........little screen.

Kids being ..........well kids. Toys made from scraps of wood and imagination used. Being out from dawn till dusk in the holidays, with just a sarnie and a bottle of water.

Swimming in rivers, do believe they call it 'wild swimming' these days like its something new.

Being able to walk to the country and pick wild raspberries and blackberries that didn't taste of diesel.

Bit of scrumping on the way home and the blackberry & apple pie result that mum made. Funny how my mum a stickler for honesty never asked .........................where the apples came from.

Well, you lot are wonderful. I never expected my little old poem would have unleashed so many memories.
                            Thanks one and all.

Your poem should be read in older folk's homes, like they have those memory boxes (or have I made that up?)
I'm sure we can come up with lots more happy memories too............if only we could remember them

Thanks VC. I wrote that a few years ago while i was recording my dads memories. His mind was wandering and his short term memory was poor, but he could go back to his childhood memories very easily.
If anyone wants to use it, feel free.
