Well done BM, thats a cracking job. Little tweaks might just make it even better. Would painting it black help?

Don't know Bill as the canopy is a dull grey colour but agree a bit of weathering may hide it a bit.

Black/ dark grey radiator paint would work a treat to hide it a bit.

A quick question for the likes of Potty...............

As I can't weld the plate to the canopy, I wondered if something like this would work to attach the plate to the canopy. The flue gas temp max's at 617F - This product withstands heat to 650F :

Just out of interest, this fan also works well on an AGA:

                    Hi BM.
First no I wouldn't use that compound as it may inhibit the heat transfer I would use heat sink compound from either a plumbers merchant or Maplins. Its not in anyway sticky but is designed to help with heat transfer and you'll like this bit its............................cheaper.

As to painting if you are going to paint the bracket I would leave the surface under the fan itself unpainted for the same reason

Looking at the temperature required to start generating electricity minimum 150 degrees I can't for the for the life of me see why they whittle on about cooler air being drawn through the power module. The fan obviously draws its cooling air from the room, if the air in the room was 150 or above well you would just be .............................. dead, or at least very poorly.

                    Nice job by the way.

Thanks for the reply Potty..............would the compound fill any gap between the shelf & the canopy?

No mate not of any distance its to soft.

Thinking about it when the alloy is hot would it not be possible to flatten to a better fit using something like a decorators paper seam roller. A wooden one not them plastic jobbies.

Or take it down place between two pieces of flat timber like floor board and cramp it flat.

Due to the canopy having a slight curve means the shelf also has to marry it. I was thinking of a thermal adhesive rather than a paste/compound. What's your thoughts on going down this route?

Remembering I am a plumber, I think that might be worth a shot, especially as you can remove it without leaving residue.

I appreciate that & it was my exact thinking. I'll order a tube & give it a whirl. Thanks for your advice.

                                Cheers Potty

As the title says, thanks for your support & advice. I bought a tube of Thermal Adhesive & it appears to have done the trick..........so much so that the fan was spinning so fast it tried committing harry carry & jumped off the shelf.....................needless to say I've sorted that so it's working like a dream now..........thanks again
