        • The roads around here are being re-gritted 10MPH for the next xxx weeks till it's all swept up again

But I spotted a place where evidently the grit spreader thingy had been refilled and there on the verge in the grass was a large (to me, but not to gritters I suppose) pile of grit that had missed the hopper.

It's now sitting in 3 buckets in my shed, ready to be used as planter mulch/decoration - my two apples have been very attractively mulched with pale grey grit already - and for drainage in pots and pot saucers.

SWMBO arrived home from shopping with a nice new pair of sandals for me, put them on and walked out back to say thank you. As I walked the air trapped between the sole of my foot and said sandal squeezed out making a rather rude noise, just like a very genteel passing of wind. The look and put down comment from SWMBO could not be repeated here.

Me being me I spent the next hour trying to replicate said noise at will with eventual success much to SWMBO's chagrin. Now I can't ..................................find me new sandals.

            • Proper rain.
3 water butts full and the fourth half full.
I won't have to water today - the first time since mid June.
It's only going to be 25 today and still raining a bit.
Flea beetles don't like the rain.
The slugs don't seem to have noticed the rain.

I've got a pair of flatties like that too Neil keeps telling me to chuck them out but they're comfortable I'll use them to potter about on the allotment where nobody will hear 'me' making flatulent noises

                  • Whilst reeling my line in this evening, I snagged some discarded line...........as I got it closer to the bank it started fighting...............I thought nah!, it's just some streamer weed on the line resisting against the current. What transpired was my hook somehow had gone through the swivel of the discarded line & on the end was a beautiful Brown Trout. Having netted it, I managed to free the hook & line. Although I can't lay claim to the catch, watching it swim free to fight another day made me very happy...

                          • Having had the forethought to pack litres of water, both chilled and frozen, for my "Great day out" (see minor rant thread), also a couple of plump pillows and a good book. Must be psychic! I'm not normally so organised

Also the friendliness of complete strangers of all nationalities all stuck together in stationary traffic.

Next door but one sat on their patio drinking coffee, suddenly the heavens opened so they whip up a very large umbrella. Having a giggle at Potty as I had to finish something before looking for shelter.

Me stood in the green house giggling back as I pointed out they had not....................closed their patio door and the umbrella was conducting large amounts of rain into their lounge. I did lend them my wet-n-dry vacuum though.
