      • Clerared an overgrown patck of blackthorn (we left half for the birds and beasties, fear not) so I can now walk around the pond again.

                      • How to mess with an 8 year olds head. Han has a piggy bank with £5 in and this piggy bank has a lock on it. But what she fails to realise is I can pop it open by using a sharp knife and this pops out the lock, the bung and the plastic surrounding it.
So this £5 is her pocket money from Grandma. At the moment it stands at 4x£1 and 2x50p. Yesterday it was at 5x£1 coins.
Its great when she finds her hidden key, its hidden because of Will trying to look at her money, opens her piggy bank and finds her coins have changed. Its great cause she sits there for ages adding it up and even though the coins are different they still add up to £5. Her face is a picture as she puzzles it out.

                            • The son left for a week in Cornwall today.

"Strange time of year" says I, "Not for what I am going for" says he.

Turns out he and his lady have been planning an eating out week, different place each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Better get some graft ready for him when he gets back, burn off those calories.

                              • I was going to put this on the 'Rant' but it seems completely insignificant compared to whats on there at the moment so......

I am happy that I have finally learned how big a cm is.

We are now only 2 hours from getting the ex bat hens so I have been preparing their smaller run for them

                                Water - check
                                Mixed grit - check
                                Bedding with diatom - check

                                Food - ermmmmm

I ordered a pretty pink poultry feeder, a long one with the grill thingy on the top. I thought a 50cm long and 18cm wide and 15cm deep feeder would be fine for 3 hens - wrong!

I measured out the food, put it in the feeder, replaced the grid lid thingy and then had to turn the kitchen light on and peer into it's depths to see the food at the bottom.

I have taken the lid off as the hens will have to get their whole head in, brace their feet on the ground and then do a very long neck stretch to reach anything. Or we might be lucky enough to get very long, but skinny necked chickens.

I now know that 50cms is nearly 2ft long - result.
