  • Gas BBQ Guru Needed!

Haven't posted on this forum for ages. Been manic busy.

Still growing things though - mainly tomatoes and apples and roses!!! Have a fab new (well, second hand) petrol rotary mower so have been playing with that. We decided to not do chickens because the fox issue here is unbelievable and I'm too worried about losing chooks. To make up for it have got a new lurcher puppy - makes 3 in total and they're a pack of hoodlums together.

Anyway, help please!!! Last night I lugged home a freecycle freebie. Now what do I do with it?

It's a huge heavy gas bbq. Make is 'Melbourne 3 Char-Broil'. Looks a bit like this though without that big lid.

3 knobs and given the name i'm assuming 3 burners. When you take the various iron plates off, there are 3 long narrow metal things evenly spaced - I guess those are the burners?

Questions I need help with are....

Cleaning - it's been well loved/used and is covered by a combination of what i'm guessing is carbon and rust. Can I blow this off with a pressure washer? Foolish to do this on the burners themselves?? - guessing the coating wont effect these so much - just the plates that need to be clean?

Do I need to shove something else in the tray below what I've assumed are the burners? rocks or something?

What on earth does char broil mean?

Really hope I can get this working ok. Got covered in grease picking it up and broke my back hefting it into the car on my own -told OH not to bother coming as I thought it was a teeny one!!!!!

So many handy pees on this forum I'm sure someone can help me get this thing working. I long for the stench of burned bangers!!!

    hi laura
this one doesn't have rocks if i remember the plates deflect the fat from your burgers into tray below. do you have a tray?
if you have a plate 1/3rd size dont scour it give it a soak and a good wash.
take the others of soak in a soapy solution then blast them.
the char-broil is a definition of the cooking methods ie; char as in chargrill
the broil is yank term for roast if you had lid place chicken on tray low gas all round and close the lid works like an oven
    hope this helps

We have pretty much the same barbecue. You should have a pull out tray underneath. We line ours with foil and then fill with a layer of sand to catch the fat and stop it burning.

The three burners should have alright a "sheild" over them to direct the fat into the tray below.

To clean it, we (the wife) use Fairy power spray. Not the most ecological, but gets the job done.

Other than that, all you need is a bottle of gas, and off you go!

        Enjoy.
