So why can't we have a place so a member of say at least 50 posts could sell their rotovator or pots or whatever , things that might be useful to other members,
has
been asked before perhaps
I don't know if there is a rule about selling on the vine but there is no reason why you can't offer things. I know recently peeps have mentioned about books, the only issue being the cost of postage. Again I think before christmas someone offered a greenhouse. It would be the responsibility of individuals.
Distance I suspect is a problem.
Except for seeds postage is a problem - no idea the cost of posting a rotavator but not negliable.
Even seeds and plants I think I offered some here for my area a time ago and not a response, as I am around the area a bit I was happy to drop them off. My tomato's had taken off and so had a few others things and I had an excess of them So free and dropped in your letter box/door -- Nothing even asked.
I don't know for sure but there may well be a legal aspect to this as well with the question of liabilty a factor for the Magazine arising from its hosting of sales by its members.
Inany case the market place is of course restricted to the number of current active members which we are aware is not large and I for one would be more likely to advertise locally on Gumtree, or the auction or recycling sites.
In the past I have bought things from a forum but never advertised anything, just thought interesting things might come up , if there was a forsale section , maybe as said not enough active members

Because there is a clause precluding it in the terms & conditions we all agree to when joining the forums ..........
No advertising or promoting. Links to products and services are acceptable only in context (response to a post) and only when no alternative wording is available. Users are never permitted to promote their own services or products. Nor are users permitted to promote third party services or products in exchange for money, gifts, aid or other benefits for themselves, their family or others.

I would assume if you wish to pay a sellers fee like all the companies on the vine it "may" be possible.

Terms & Conditions of membership can only be changed by the owners of the forum Bill, not the Mod's.
The word MOD never left my keyboard. Presumably whoever makes a "Rule" can unmake it, given enough reasonable arguments. I suspect there are some very good reasons why a sales thread would not work but hearing "Because it's in the rules" is like a red rag to a bull for me. That is probably why I wouldnt last five minutes on an allotment site.
You probably wouldn't last five minutes as a Moderator, either, Bill
Speaking personally, I really don't see the point of trying to sell 2nd hand stuff on here.
Take Kier with his "rotovator" - Kier lives in Kent. Even if I wanted a 2nd hand rotovator there is no way that I would go to Kent for one. I'd be looking on the local Gumtree or Freeads for it and, if I had one to sell, that is where I'd advertise.
As for the Forum Rules, they exist and we signed up to them. If other Forum's allow items to be sold, then you don't need me to tell you what to do.
You probably wouldn't last five minutes as a Moderator, either, Bill Of that there is no doubt

I don't want to sell stuff either, i just want to understand why its against the rules.
We may have signed up to them but that doesnt mean they cant be changed in a reasonable case.
