  • Skip recycling

Many the times on here I have seen advice given to look through skips.

This seems fair enough to almost everyone its rubbish after all. But scanning my local paper this evening I can see there maybe a downfall. It was reported that someone had been found guilty of theft and fine, not nice along with the criminal conviction that goes with it.

The law states that the contents of a skip belong in the first instance to the owner of the contents who then passes ownership on to the skip company, at what stage this transfer happens I don't know but it always belongs to someone. To remove anything from a skip without permission is common theft!!

    Be aware people and ask.

I always thought you had to ask permission to take stuff out of skips.

I caught someone taking stuff out of a skip we had paid for a few years ago and I told him to put it back. It was my rubbish after all. Maybe if he had knocked on my door and asked, I would have given him whatever he wanted! I wouldn't dream of taking something - anything - even rubbish, without asking.

Generally if it's in a skip you havee to ask.

If you happen to find something lying in the street you have to Hand it into the police then, if it isn't claimed see if you can claim it. If you just take it it is theft by finding as it technically still belongs to someone even though not in their possession (they can then be done for fly tipping)
