    Hi

I think Ive been bitten, 3 times arround my ankles.
Someone else on lottie said they had the same. Its a little red blotch and very swolen. It happened thursday.
I will take some medication tonight (oral), and see what its like tomorrow.
Anyone else? I am in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Overnight three nights ago, one bite. Two nights ago second bite - v. red and looking infected. Will be treating them accordingly.

I was wading through long grass on both days, so may be linked.

In south east, Surrey to be more precise. A hatch of something nasty?

Everybodies been bitten Tigerella. Midges do it. Mosquitoes do it. Clegs do it. Don't want to be unsympathetic - but the bights just go with the territory.

I get those....you dont feel what bites you then you get a lump that seeps clear liquid and the area goes red and hot and itches like mad.

I take puriton and put savlon on the lumps. Little advise DONT put a plaster on them. I did last year and it seeped out of the plaster the when I took the plaster off the area had gone black....and was in hospital.

The DR wanted to know if I had been near DEER...????

I now put insect repelant on my legs.

For insect repellant I find Autan works well. Or some people swear the product by Avon - Skin so Soft - does the job. I believe that's what the British Army uses.

OH sympathises with you Tigerella; they queue up to bite her the second she leaves the car. Think it's the blood in her vodka stream they're after

Nog, that sounds like mosquito bights. They breed in water and need water which has been standing for 4 days. I find it helps not to leave water around the garden - trays for watering in, greenhouse eaves, containers water can collect in etc. They don't fly high (probably why your ankles get bitten - so do mine) so be specially careful in the lower lying parts of the garden. I always find the greenhouse the danger zone.

                Hi

I have a bath full of water at the moment, plenty of weeds, quite wet, but I would not say I was walking in the long grass.
I dont like putting any creams on
If I must, I will talk to the chemist on saturday.

                Many thanks..Tigerella

Yeah, not many about in Croydon these days?, If you get a tick's jaws stuck in you it can be nasty.

Had a peach of a horsefly bite last year- muddy fingers don't help. As generations of mothers have said..'try not to scatch it dear'

                  What's a cleg?

Better to use insect repellant before you get bitten than to have to use antiseptics and antibiotics after the event. Also try to keep skin covered - long sleeves, long trousers and socks. Insects are usually worse evening times (mozzies etc) although wasps sting any time for the sheer h**l of it.

I'll say they do - I was walking past our car last summer and a wasp decided to sting my bum - most unfair! and blooming sore too!

Best thing for bite's I've found is Witch Doctor Gel, made from Witch Hazel (not from real witches!)

                          Very soothing and gentle too!

If you have an aloe vera plant then you can just snap off a leaf and wipe the bite area with it - it is brilliant stuff!

I use lavender and tea tree in aloe vera gel or as an ointment and have been to put neat chamomile essential oil on the really itchy ones - not recommended folks. If you can get it lemongrass or citronella essential oil (yup the stuff they put in the candles) in a plain lotion or gel base will do the trick but it is worth adding some mandarin essential oil (about 1 drop mandarin to every 4 lemongrass/citronella) as there is an ingredient in the lemongrass/citronella that can be irritant to skin.
