But - without happy posters there will be no forum to place any adverts on. It works both ways

          • ^^^^^^^^I have to agree but this thread seems to be IMO a little over the top.

The other thing to remember is that at this time there are but 69 members on site but there are also 1858 others who are also reading the adverts.

            • This thread shows that the change in format/ads is a step too far. We all realise there is a need for ads but at the same time this is a forum and it is about balance.

Again as a forum people come and people go. However at least three grapes have voiced that they are going until this is resolved and they are all regular contributers and they should not be lost because of this issue - IMO

That 1858 is visitors who arrived at the site in the last X minutes (no easy way to tell if they are still reading the page they arrived on, or not, so is not actually an accurate measurement of "current users", although its a useful relative figure).

But it might be that lots of people arrived, couldn't actually read the content that Google Search directed them too, and they clicked-off

Unfortunately if they inadvertently clicked somewhere in the mess of the screen that takes them to an advert that will clock up a click-through to an advert and will make it seem that this configuration is [financially] worthwhile ...

I think a better measure would be how many new registration there are - that would indicate new people who want to ask a question (or track viewed threads and thus are likely to return)

If some kind person had not posted the relevant settings to disable the mess by using Adblock plus I would have gone too. It happens that I am technical, so was easily able to implement the workaround, that ain't everyone. So there is at least one near-miss lost contributor.

                    • Hi Ya, I will try the ad block thing to see if I can get rid of these blue side bars that are very distracting. I realise the adverts are financially viable but I got the impression the web site was for gardeners not advertisers. If I want to buy I will look for the item and do not need it pushing under my nose. It's like the charity thing I tend to give in the street as if you do it on line or by phone etc they never let you rest. Half my screnn is taken up with these annoying adverts. As I said will try but if not successful then bye bye.

                      • When logging on at lunchtime this is what I see. I have no capability of installing adblock in work either.

                        • Ad blocker worked, but 4OD won't work with it and I need that atm, so I had to delete ad blocker, as there was no option for turning it on and off

                          • Thanks Bacchus. Not much of the thread to see there
Its a good thing you don't have the Bottom Blue Bar as there'd be no thread at all

When you are ON the 4OD site can you click on the ABP icon, in toolbar, and de-select "Enable for this site"?

Alternatively you can go into [Adblock plus] OPTIONS and add the 4OD domain name to the "Whitelisted Sites" and it should?? leave that site alone.

The 4OD site MIGHT use other domains, which might also need Whitelisting. That will be harder to overcome (unless you are technically minded)

I could see that Norfolkgrey had made a post, that there were 26!! pages and 204 likes. Plenty of information ... zero content though
