    gutted...really upset...
Calm down dear, its only a flood.

Unless they already had blight then all the veg should be OK, provided they are submerged for days and not weeks.

Soft fruit will be done for and salad should be avoided in case of sewage, onions and spuds should be ok.

Only if and its a big IF is if there is anything other than riverwater and sewage in the flood. i.e Nasty chemicals.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

We have had high winds and rain for the last few nights but nothing really during the day (thankfully). I think the south east has been very very lucky. Our allotment is looking healthy and happy at the moment. My heart really does go out too all families and those whos lives and homes and allotments have been affected. Chin up Sebbster - you can't keep a good gardener down for long. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you )

I really feel for you all whose allotments are under water. It must be so soul destroying. All your hard work looking as if it is going to be washed away.

We can only hope that July and August are going to be the extremely warm, with below average rainfall months that they forecast at the beginning of the year. Fingers very tightly crossed!!!!

            Pippin,

Thanks. Those who have houses under water of course I feel dreadfully sorry for, I think I am being a little selfish...

            It's just that hard work

              Sebbster,
Not selfish at all. My top garden suffered from chaffer grubs last year and they killed all my newly planted shrubs and my lawn looked like a patch work quilt. It was my first year in the cottage and I had worked so hard in the garden it just really upset me. I know how you must feel - allotments take much more time and effort than a garden. It's just upsetting. I'm sending a BIG hug over the internet )

Went to work at 08:00 Monday still here..........

We declared an emeragancy as one of our sites is in Sheffield and it looked like we were going to loose it at one point so we have had to get all the resilance up and working.

Roundup is a contact weedkiller once it has dried or come into contact with the earth it becomes harmless. Even if it was still active it will be so diluted down that it wont do any harm at all.

                        Floods

OK here in Eastbourne. It rained all day on Sunday and a lot of Monday too, but I went up there today and all is well. The plot really needed a good soaking anyway - also my neighbour is away and I'd promised to water for him if it got too dry, so at least I won't have to do that.

Commiserations to everyone affected by the floodwaters - looks awful on TV.

Sebbster, I am so sorry to hear your plot is under water.
Have you been up this morning?
                          Good luck!

Sebbster, really sorry and sending huge vibes through the net that your plot will be okay once the water subsides. Hopefully not all yourhard work will have been destroyed. And also anyone else in the same situation, homes or allotments and even livelihoods. We have been so lucky here and I really feel for all those affected. Sue

Been up this morning. The entrance to the site is flooded so badly now that I cant even get access to have a look. No rain so far today but I've kept a close eye on the news and it looks like this area will be hit hard Saturday but that's if you trust the weather....

I'm in Derbyshire by the way. Not half as bad as it is in Sheffield.
