Yep Im in Lincolnshire and been to have a look at the damage at the allotment today. Under at least a foot of water and only the things in raised beds seem to not be swimming. Hopefully it will drain away pretty quick and not too much damage will have been done but I guess thats nothing compared to what the poor people who's houses have flooded are going through, not to mention the loss of lives that have happened. My heart goes out to everyone suffering.

Really nothing to moan about yet, as me and mine are all perfectly safe but I've just had a delivery of sandbags from the local council admid dire warnings for the weekend I'm about 100 yds from a canal which is already above pavement height with a badly leaking retaining wall...

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

If you are worried then get all electricals and paperwork / photo's upstairs, plus anything else you can safely get upstairs.

        Better safe than sorry.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

Yup... job done. Thanks to having four kids I don't have a great deal of financial value at low heights anyway but I have moved everyting from my filing cabinet upstairs and will move PC and other bits and bobs if/when it looks like a good idea. My downstairs floors are tiles and wood, so not much can be done there. I hope it doesn't come to it but white goods and big furniture will have to be insurance claims if the worst happens

I'm a firm believer in 'my glass is half full' though, so I won't panic until necessary!

I suppose we are lucky we live about 50 yards from a canal & half a mile from the river Soar and as far as I know we dont get floods.
The river floods at least 4 times a year but they don't reach us,there are several fields for the water to run on to.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

                  Hi Sebbster,

I'm actually on the waiting list for the allotments you have your plot on. I went to check it out yesterday and couldn't get across the lake that was the park. I went over after work today and saw all the water that doesn't seem to be going anywhere from the plots. Hopefully your plot will be sorted again as it dries up and I feel so awful for everyone who is still affected.

                        Hi Claire
I hope you get everything sorted. As I said in an earlier post here in Sheffield things have been very bad, two people were killed in the floods and whole estates have had to be evacuated. We were in one of the few houses in our area that had electricity so were providing people with baths and hot meals. I am involved in a couple of community groups in the area and we are in the process of trying trying to help those areas most seriously effected. We are providing the most basic of things that they require. Light bulbs because all theirs popped when the floods struck, plastic bags so that they can bag up donated items for distribution and cleaning stuffs and mops so that they can clean up. I hope that the forcast weather this weekend will not lead to further flooding. Deaths and large scale devastation such as this tends to put things back into perspective

                            Hi Julia,

                            PM'd you back.

The guy with all the water (his pic is on my blog) the poor fella put corrugated iron around his plot, quite deep, to keep out the weeds from the adjoining plots. Now of course the water has no-where to go except down so it's taking a long time for his to clear.

Mine was ok when I went down Tue or Wed, not so sure now and with the forecast tomorrow plus last nights rain, I'm not hopeful.
