  • Red Filbert (nut Tree)

    Hi Everybody
Gardening Angel has just arrived at my house with a Red Filbert Nut Tree (i've called it Gilbert) Gilbert Filbert has a nice ring to it Its a wonderful tree and so nice looking. The leaves are a dark burgandy with a deep red under side. The nut clusters are bright red and look like a flower heads from a distance. Gilbert is going to be planted in my top garden next to my Bramley Apple Tree. I will post pics asap

I have lots of shrubs and plants in my gardens that have names. It reminds me of the people that gave them to me or places I have visited? Do other people do this or am I just a bit mad!!!!

I think it all started when we got married 4 years ago. We asked for national garden vouchers instead of John Lewis and M&S vouchers (although got lots of them - thank you very much) so when we bought our cottage last year we had a great big spend up on plants, shrubs and all sorts of goodies. Because of this we have remembered who gave us the vouchers and the plants are now known as Bob Hebe - Nancy Honeysuckle - Jenny Alba Clematis - Glenna Buddleia etc....I love my garden and all my wonderful plants

Wonderful picture Nic, and the nuts will be the sweetest you ever tasted

My car is called Nipper - the registration is NCH, which brought children to mind, but it goes like a goodun and nips in and out of traffic and parking spaces beautifully!

I'm sure there was a song called 'Gilbert the Filbert, the king of the nuts!' Got a long memory!
