  • Any of you live near Bourton on the Water?

Going on holiday on friday afternoon and staying overnight near Alfreton before going to Bourton.

Trying to find out just how the floods affect our journey, but this seems to be very difficult to find out on the internet!!

Saw on the news about the M1 in Sheffield, nameley Catcliffe, but not sure if there is anywhere else affected on our route? We travel from the North.

May all be over by friday afternoon but thought I should try and find out the "hotspots" just in case.

Is that Bourton in the water Shelle !! As far as I know its only around sheffield they have closed at the moment. Which way will you go from Alfreton? Back on the M1, M69 and then the A roads?

We are about 20 miles away, and our local radio station mentioned there are flood warnings for Gloucestershire but I don't know where exactly in the county I'm afraid. But, as Bourton has plenty of water normally it might be a risk area - if you haven't already, try googling AA roadwatch - they may have some up to date information for you online or there is a number you can ring... sorry not to be more help.

        That was the plan Nick!

Have heard from an uncle who was driving down to London, he left here at 12 noon and go there at 8pm due to the M1 and the A1 being closed.

I have discovered a good bit on the AA website, so shall be using that over the next 2 nights.

the irony is we could have gone over to the M6 via the A69 from here, but as we have booked a travelodge in alfreton, we need to try and get there!

Do you have auto route Shelle? if not I could mail you a route as an alternative just in case it's still shut - pm me your e-mail address, but you could do the
A1, A69, M65,M66,M60 round Manchester and then come off at stockport and down the A6 then the A615 out of Matlock to Alfreton.

As you go down the M69 wave to the left to Piglet & then when you get to jct 2 to the right to me Hope you have a good time in the cotswolds.

Thanks Nick for your suggestion. Dont have autoroute, but the route you have suggested looks good if needed.

The M1 appears to be open this afternoon (albeit just one lane) so hopefully we will get through on friday even if it is slowly! Will check tomorrow night and then decide whether to take the alternative route. Listen out for me shouting hello on friday afternoon

Many thanks! One of the main reasons we chose Bourton was for its many pubs and restaurants meaning we can leave the car at night and walk (and drink!).

Weather wise, the most we can hope for is dry!

See you all in a weeks time!
