I have a friend in the Midlands who owns a nursery. At this time of the year he kneels beside his bed every night and prays for a hard frost. He sells tender plants all through April, he even warns people its too early to put them out, and yet their optimism always overtakes their caution and he ends up selling them another lot. Its makes a huge difference to his profits. I make the same missjudgement every year and I don't think i shall ever learn. last night it was 2 degrees in the poly tunnel, the toms look fine but my cucumbers look sick.

The forecast said we're due another fairly hard frost across much of the country tonight, so get your fleece ready.
I keep everything tender in the conservatory (much to my OH's annoyance), but 64 tomato plants, 18 chilli, plus various other plants are beginning to leave us a little restricted.
I keep telling her she's lucky I'm not obsessive!
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
        Pumpkin pi.

Mine too. There was only about 1-2 inches of potato foliage above soil, but those leaves have totally wilted. I've now earthed up over them and put envirofleece on top. It's never happened before, so I don't know whether the plants will recover or whether it's fatal (gosh, I hope not....that's my entire potato crop).

It was surprisingly bitter here on Sunday night. Some of the polytunnel potatoes look a bit "wilty" on it and I've lost 4 tom plants and 3 cucumber plants. I only had 7 out in the tunnel though - the other 27 are still in the house ...
