  • Happy May Day!

Is anyone joining in May Day celebrations this year?

Each year I pick cherry blossom and put it on a vase on May Day( that's if I can find any after all this rain and wind! )

Today in France is a public holiday...but for Labour Day.

Well, I didn't know this about it being half way between solstices!

    From an American site...
" May Day is an ancient spring festival in the Northern Hemisphere.
It’s an astronomical holiday, one of the year’s four cross-quarter days, or day that falls more or less midway between an equinox and solstice – in this case the March equinox and June solstice.
The other cross-quarter days are Groundhog Day on February 2, Lammas on August 1 and Halloween on October 31.
May Day also stems from the Celtic festival of Beltane, which was related to the waxing power of the sun as we move closer to summer.
At Beltane, people lit fires through which livestock were driven and around which people danced, moving in the same direction that the sun crosses the sky."

Just thought it was interesting that we don't 'do' Groundhog Day nor anything around 1st August.

To me May Day feels more like the first celebration Spring is properly here...Easter and Spring Equinox always feel too early and cold!

It just brings a smile to my face

Seed sowing, visit friend in the Sealed Knot as they descend to 'do' battle, take daughters birthday pressie to her (it's on Sunday) and have our 23rd wedding anniversary.
      Busy weekend all round then.
Oh and a May Day Fair (including plant stall)

May day is our 17th wedding anniversary so we're going to have a picnic on the beach...a bit dotty on such an arctic day, but at least the sun is shining and it's a spectacular beach so I am not complaining!

          Happy May day to everyone!

Really cold here today. Just hung the washing out and wished I'd put a coat on. No special celebrations but enjoying the only bank holiday I get that's not already added into other holidays.
