  • Hayfever

Does anyone suffer from hayfever - and does it have an impact on your gardening/growing through the spring and summer months.

I'm lucky I guess that I only get it mildly, so just have to put up with the sneezing and constant runny nose.

I know a couple of people who suffer really badly, which must be awful if you are a grower.

Only started getting hay fever about five years ago. Just take a once a day tablets which seems to do the trick. Whichever pollen I react to is just about gone by now so I've had a morning on the plot with no problems.

I didn't get hayfever until my 20's. I think grass seed is my enemy. I don't like taking tablets as they either don't work or dry you out. Nowadays I just take a spoonful of local honey and if I think I might have a bad day I take 2 paracetemol as well first thing. It doesn't stop it, it just makes it bearable. As for affecting gardening I just carry on but duck neighbours as I don't want to sniff and snot whilst talking to them. There is a bonus, there is less watering to do I shall go

Like yourself NG, it was something that never affected me until my 20s.

I don't take anything for it as I don't really do medicines.

I once got asked if I had a coke habit due to my constant sniffing.

I didn't start getting hay fever until I became pregnant with Han. I ended up using a nasal spray when it was really bad. Once I'd had her it wasn't as bad.
Now I have good days with an odd sneeze or a bad day sneezing my head off. My problem is I can't blow my nose properly so like you Kevin I am constantly sniffing.
I don't take anything for it as its something I can live with. Its only a slight seasonal problem for me.

              Interesting...

Maybe I should try and get pregnant.

I suffer with all year around Hayfever. I never had it when I was a child. Only got it in my early 20's.

I suffer really badly in a morning with it until my hayfever tablet kicks in.

I never had it. Then we moved to Devon for three years. I had it so bad that I couldn't open my eyes! Had to wear glasses and stop wearing lenses. Really suffered. Absolutely terrible. We moved back to Yorkshire and it went! Weird! Can only assume their is something growing down there that doesn't grow up here! Palm trees possibly?!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

It was just recently (from the news I think) that people may suffer from different types of pollen - i.e. grass pollen, tree pollen, etc.

My Nannys was tree pollen, I can't remember what my brothers is but he suffers really badly when rapeseed is in flower yet I can walk through a field of it with minimal affect. So it doesn't seem to be specific strain in a family/DNA thing

Ah hay fever. It sucks life out of summer. I got hay fever late teens whilst fishing. Half way through my session I couldn't open my eyes anymore...

From that year I get sneezes, itchy back of mouth, sore eyes, itchy head (only when at allotment)

Yet to get it this year but it's likely to be on its way. I think tree pollen is he one that gets me and a lot of rapeseed is grown near me and that's a mare for me...

So to summarise, if it's a day I'm affected it definitely makes going to allotment hard...

I get a very mild sort, runny nose and sneezes and only occasionally. Not to bad for me but SWMBO has a job to keep up with clean hankies.

Everytime you mention your other half as SWMBO it gets me trying to work it out - I've still not got it.

Don't tell me though.... I'm gonna get it !!!
