Brian asked me what I wanted for my birthday having over the years run the gamut of jewellery and perfume, and I asked for plants. Growbags and tomato plants. It turned out to be his last present to me. The smell of tomato plants is bitter sweet, it reminds me of his love but also reminds me of his illness and death.

The tomatoes were made into chutney, a jar of which I still have. My son wants to get rid of it and I need to explain to him why I can't.

my choice would vary according to the time of year...

I love chrismassy smells (cinnamon, cloves, ginger) in winter but best of all for that season is the smell of a 1970s christmas tree loaded with chocolate when the smell has built up over night and you just openend the front room door.

In spring I like the smell of puppies bellys, day old chicks and rain. New mown grass is lovely too but best for me is the smell when you pass a field of rape in full flower.

Summer is sweetpeas, in every room of the house. Outside, the smell of the 'Tat & Lyle' sugar factory.

Autumn is apple woodsmoke and roast dinners cooking....specifically roast lamb.

I know this is weird but I love the smell of party poppers when they have been popped.
            Bacon
Smell of pine in a fire
            Sea
            Freesia
            After the grass been cut
            Roast
            New baby
Can't think of any more at the moment
