The rains stopped, I've walked round the garden and my answers are:-

Something Old - the apple trees that were in the garden when I moved here 30 years ago - said to have been planted in 1940

New - Melons. never grown them before but a thread on here prompted me to do so - and they're flowering

Borrowed - some tomato seeds from the VSP - Caspian Pink, Cowlick's Brandy Wine, Paul Robeson and Cream Torpedo - that I hope to save seeds from and return to the VSP

Blue - the Bluebells that pop up everywhere in May. Love the colour.

    No Sixpences though

      No rain here.

Something Old - paeony Sarah Bernhardt, planted when I moved here in 1976

New - cerinthe - seeds from VSP, a new one to me, but apparently good for bees, they've just started flowering.

Borrowed - japanese honeysuckle from a hedge down the lane

Blue - bluebells of course, and dwarf delphinium (dwarf as in only 4 feet high )

Not seen a silver sixpence in many a long year.
      Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
      Endless wonder.

You both need to grow some Honesty (the money plant) for your silver sixpenses)

to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Old = 200yr old pear tree
            New= Rose bush
Borrowed= flower pots donated by several local shops for our plant and seed swap which might as well be used for a few weeks prior to going to the exchange in November!
            Blue= Canterbury Bells

            Silver 6d? YEP!
Got a 1921 one on a shelf in my bedroom....ooops....it's just accidentally fallen into my shoe

Old: 4 strawberry plants that I bought with me in 2006 have morphed to fill two 2x1 metre beds.
New: Night scented stock - not new seeds but the first time I have planted them. My goodness,
they smell beautiful in the evening for such a few small flowers, I'll certainly be saving seeds
              for next year.
Borrowed: Lychnis ahem..."borrowed" from my neighbour's garden.
              Blue: Delphiniums.

And: OK not in my shoe and not made of silver but...

                1. A very beautiful old rose bush that only flowers for about 3 weeks so is just about over.
                2. My shed
                3. Could I include this as the fence I didn't ask for or want that I'm about to remove that was put up by a neighbour to wind me up.
                4. My shed.

The only silver I have is most of my jewellery.

Old - besides me and the dogs it has to be the quince hedge we inherited when we moved in

New - 1x1m raised beds (2) for the new veggie area and outdoor Q's. One plant has already sacrificed a Q for a round of sarnies.

Borrowed - various seeds and cuttings from Jeanette behind us and Pat who lives next door but one - Ta very much

Blue - buddleia and various other plants who I can't name because I have no idea what they are. I read that bees like blue a few years back and since then I have become obsessed.

Old - a rose bush called Ballerina, which I bought 30+ years ago, still going strong

New - Dwarf Datura flowers, which I've grown for the first time. The leaves are poisonous to humans, but clearly not to snails...I've only got 2 surviving plants now, having started out with about 10.

Borrowed - Anenome japonica.. 'borrowed' a bit of root a few years ago, and they've spread all over the garden now.

                    Blue- Sweet pea 'Lord Nelson'

                    Sadly, no silver

Oooooh, what a good idea for a thread.

Old: Plum (half dead), Pear (four-fifths dead) and Peach (sick) trees. Sadly they have been left to their own devices long enough to be unsalvageable. Buddleia, Laurel, Weigela and Hamamelis. Honeysuckle and Roses drifting through from various neighbouring gardens.

New: Cardoons, Cornus, Geums, Persicaria, Hemerocalas and Cranesbills. As well as Magnolia, Paeony, Escallonia, several Heuchera, and Rosa 'Little Sunshine' (I think) and 'Oh Wow,' all still in pots, as we're not staying.

Borrowed: The whole ruddy garden! I don't like the house, or the location, but the garden is a fabulous space, that makes the rest of it worthwhile. (Don't tell 'Himself' but I would actually buy it if we were in a position to do so.) Did I say that out loud!.

Blue: Cornflowers just going over, our garden (camping) recliners, two pairs of jeans and five polo shirts on the line, a couple of tubs, and the smoky haze from the bonfire, which the Chooks are now digging in - even though it's still too hot for you and me!

Silver? A few grey hairs lol, and the fabulous foliage of the Cardoons. That's as near as I can get. Lol

                        Nice thread!

Old= 4 daleks and a hotbin - all secondhand, 30+year-old fruit bushes transported from Mum's this year, now thriving on the plot, and Kent Blue peas which is an old and gorgeous heritage variety.

New= uh-oh. My greenhouse. A munty frame. Dwarf quince, chilean guava, african horned melon, kajari melons, many shades of squash and beans, onions from seed.

Borrowed= peppers from the VSP to grow for seed and return, beans from HSL to do the same with.

Blue= my shed, the wooden edging on 4 of my beds, saffron (blue-ish!), a huge swathe of cerinthe and some of the sweetpeas.

Old - a lot of trees, oak, ash, beech and birch that were planted by my mum over 25 years ago, I love them. Also an old pond dug by me about 20 years ago () and full of tadpoles.

New - a whole bed of assorted beans, broad, purple, French and some other sort all planted in a muddle but will look lovely when they flower and produce loads of beans hopefully!

Borrowed - comfrey, from a friend which is flourishing and makes great feed for the garden.

Blue - lots of buddleias...and i have seen several blue butterflies in the garden which made me feel happy

When I was young I was always finding sixpences, instead of spending them I kept them and I still have them! But no sixpence in my shoe I'm afraid!!

                            This is a lovely thread.
