  • Reasons to love the Vine

Having just read a thread and previously stating I wasn't going to moan about issues, I have decided to take a different approach and list reasons why I am a Grape and I am proud of it. This is the first forum I joined, which may have something to do with it and I am not putting down other forums and I know other peoples experiences differ to my own. So please feel free to post your loves of the vine, however any issues please post on the rant thread or issues on the vine thread.

    1. Lots of warm welcomes instantly.
    2. Advice and experience in bulk loads
    3. Lots of different viewpoints, so I can pick and choose what suits me.
    4. Inspiration - lots of sharing and piccies. I can see such a vast improvement in my garden and it is thanks to grapes old and new. I even have a seed library where I can actually find things.
    5. Mods - they do a fantastic job keeping us all inline and jollying things up.
    6. VSP - is a fantastic resource for everyone and I love the fact that a lot of these have been grown by other grapes.
    7. Virtual Show - a chance to show pics, have fun.
    8. The gardeners rest - christmas daftness at its best.
    9. Not everything has to be gardening.
    10. Lots of nutters
    11. I don't have to be ashamed to own 250+ seeds
    12. Advent calendar
    13. Puppies
    14. Wildlife
    15. I can say daft or simple things without people being mean
    16. Encouragement and support.
    17. The laughs
    18. MoMs
    19. A thread dedicated to biscuit dunking
    20. Generosity and sheer kindness of grapes.
    21. Like button

There are loads more, but those listed I didn't need to think about Sorry, if anyone thinks its a bit soppy.............but its definitely better than moaning

Well mainly, my reasons to love the vine are pretty much the same as yours NG.

This is not the first time I have joined a forum so I'll concentrate on things unique to the vine...

That welcome; it's kind of awesome the amount of people that take the time to meet and greet you when you walk in the virtual door. It's that that turned me from lurker to poster.

The mods; without the 'mod' banner by their name (and it took me a while to notice that) I wouldn't even know who the mods are they are so light handed in their work! The rules here are basic courtesy and a little common sense...that's it! I figure you'd have to be quite out of order to get on the wrong side of them.

Sage advice, gently given; I'm never scared to ask even the most stupid question because no-one has ever made me feel idiotic here (despite all evidence to the contrary) on other forums there can be a bit of 'Lording it about'...I've never found that here, not even from the expert, exhibition growers for whom total novice questions must be incredibly boring...there is still that ever present courtesy!

I know the recent updates have included some pretty awful colour schemes and irritating glitches but seriously.....I wouldn't go anywhere else now I've found the vine.

I 'ditto' all of the above plus....

It's lovely that so many people you have never (and will probably never) meet wish you happiness on your birthday, anniversary etc. Yes, I know that might sound a bit soft but in my situation with an unstable household it keeps me sane and reminds me that I still have a space in the universe other than as a carer.

Its a tonic when you are miffed, sad or upset!

And LONG may it grow and blossom into an even more unique forum.

Think my list would be nearly the same as yours NG. I mean where else can you be made to feel special by being made MOM and get a surprise parcel just for you . Or when its your birthday how many people wish you happy birthday and send you cake, and we all love cake
You can't ask stupid questions as there are no such thing as a stupid question you just don't know something and want some advice.
Also where else do you get such a warm welcome when you join and say hello to everyone.

At least I am never on my own when I spend most of my life disconnected from everybody in the real world.

Luvly thread, Norfolk Grey. Thank you

I'd like to add some of my reasons to love the Vine:-

                1. Meeting so many wonderful, kind and generous people, both online and face to face. Where else would you find someone to pop in to change your lightbulbs, or dig up tree stumps, just because you say its a problem Even though we may not have met, I still think of you all as friends. I'm a very lucky chicken to have met you all.

                2. Through the VSP, I've "met" many of you and I really appreciate the notes you send with your requests.

                3. You've held my hand and supported me and "The puppies" and its been a pleasure to be able to share them with you.

                4. Who else would let me post nearly 36,000 posts, most of them nutty

                5. As a relatively new Mod my pointy stick has never been used on any of you - just the weirdo spammers who think they can get the better of us. No chance!!

                6. Lots and lots more reasons, but I'm really here because you're all such lovely people.

I doubt that there is another forum that is so welcoming, knowledgable and caring and its the members who make it so. Keep up the good work everyone and I'll buy you a drink in the GR

I have to say I agree with all the previous comments. I joined a different forum before I found this one. I never felt comfortable there as they all seemed to be experts and only "did it their way."I have never worried about asking a stupid question on this forum because some one always answers it. What I love best is when someone comes back to say that they don't know but that one of the experts will be along soon. It is such a kind thing to do as I always wait with impatience for an answer

Great Thread NG...............The reason I love the Vine is not only due to it's friendly members but also because there is something for everyone.

I need to brush up on my geography, where is Bassingham in relation to Lincoln City. Only been here about 2 and a half years but I'm afraid I don't go out much. Just love to be home, in the garden in the summer and in the house in the winter

                            Thanks for a fine thread
I'll add few spammers although that could be down to the good-humoured hard work of the Pointy Stick Brigade, of course. For which thanks.
Although as on all forums people come and go, this one really seems to have a core of loyal members and I think that is down to the Vine being a very generous place to be. Almost everyone gives as well as takes from the threads, be it serious advice or outbreaks of silliness.

I love it cos it is brill!

Grapes are so kind, have decades of knowledge and take so much trouble over answering questions.

Also, because of the fabulous archives, there aren't many gardening questions that aren't answered somewhere on the site.
