Before there were forums (or is that fora) there were newsgoups, they still exist but are gradually giving way to forums.

I loved the chat, and I now belong to 3 forums. This one and 2 others that aren't specifically garden but in a way are related.

I've met some of you and you are fantastic people. Can't wait for the GR to open again.

And I can put stuff on the Minor Rant thread that shows what a numpty I can be and never be identified by the local population as a complete wombat!

On the 7th July 2005 I was chatting to a newsgroup friend who worked in London. She suddenly said "Sorry, I've got to go. I've just seen the top of a bus blow off". We spent the next 5 hours trying to contact my step daughter and finally found she was alright by a phone call from her grandmother who lived in Cyprus.

A benefit of forums are the moderators. Mine and my partners favourite newsgroup was wrecked by one person and his cronies who were extremely offensive and ruined the friendliness of the group. With no one to stop them they did as they liked. One of the members started a forum just for us long term members. It suddenly stopped working without warning when he died. The newsgroup still exists and 10 years on they are still being offensive about the original posters, none of whom have posted to it for years.

I love this place because everyone shows respect for everyone else and are happy to help out- as best they can, no matter what.
