We all have busy lives, and weeds don't care about weddings. Allotments ARE a huge amount of work, you simply cannot run one on a "one weekend in four" arrangement.

The weed seeds are infesting everyone else's plots, all those people who are up there every day keeping on top of things.


I follow the One Straw principles (no dig, no spray) and not every weed is pulled up as soon as it appears, no way. I'm also really really busy with jobs, fostering and pets and I'm not up the plot every day: only once a week sometimes.
However, I don't allow any weeds to go to seed: if I don't have time to do anything else, I still make sure I'm up there to deadhead any flowering weeds.
