  • I just wondered did you ever all the time

Just curiosity from me here, and a possible opening for Bearded Bloke!

Do you have any gardening superstitions? I have inherited one from my old pops....never carry a hoe into the house, it is bad luck

I have no idea why that came about but still always adhere to it, if I carried one in the house the OH would rattle it around my head....so maybe its true?

I'm not sure if this is exactly a gardening superstition.

When I was a child we had a beautiful hawthorn tree in our garden with lovely pink blossoms, but if i tried to bring those pretty flowers into the house my mum would have a fit and order them out saying it was bad luck. Now I do not allow hawthorn into the house either I'm sure it's daft but I just can't risk it!

We weren't allowed to bring hawthorn into the house either. Apparently it brings illness and death, if you do. Mythology and Folklore of Hawthorn | Trees for Life

See, I always thought it was lilac that bought death into the house. I find it really difficult here because the French seem to pick it and bring it into the house as soon as it flowers. It does smell lovely though.

Dawn will not set Parsley seeds because her mother always said it would make you pregnant. She will be 79 next birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My MiL wouldn't burn elderberry indoors because it meant a death in the family.
