    Me too.

But a tenner each sounds fine to me, the allotmenteers get a bargain and you get remunerated for your time and effort in transporting them. Everybody wins!

For example, he may know that everyone on site already has a dalek, or is canny enough to have built their bins from pallets.
If nobody wants a Dalek enough to pay a higher price, then Shen may be going home with 5 unwanted Daleks. So it is better to pitch the price at a level where they will be snapped up, then hang out for an extra quid or two and be stuck with them.

      Your move
Quite right, VC, Shen does know the local market forces better than we do, and the salient point is what the market will stand.

However, there would be nothing to stop Shen offering them out at a tenner on the day, and reduce the cost later on in the day if he finds he has excess stock - which is, I guess, what Asd@ did in the first instance.

Haha! I should hope so too - 'bout time we had a proper opposition rather than 'shades of' politicians!

But you will still be giving them a bargain at a tenner a knock - and be able to serve cakes along with tea at the AGM too.

              • Well, I seem to have lost the ability to multiquote - which, I guess, does require a certain amount of consistent thought, which I'm not up for at pumpkin-time on a Wednesday.

Had a very pleasant couple of Marsden's 'New World' this evening. I'm not a huge Marsden's fan, but this tasted rather nice. Good banter with chums, and a completed crossword round the table too - so a good night altogether.

So I'm off to put the house and all in to bed now - nos da!

                • Morning all. A lot cooler here today than yesterday. Not got much planned apart from getting the kids to tidy their bedroom. That's going to be a morning job at least.
                  Have a good day everyone

                    • Mornin all!
We're in the middle of the second wave of storms.

Both seem to have skirted by us, so we've been watching the flashes and listening to to rumbling , and the garden is appreciating it's well deserved watering.

                      • whilst on holiday in the Broads I read a book where it said straw was as valuable as manure for improving the soil so...........
That's really interesting Sheneval. I am off to see family at weekend and Brother in law is a farmer with a barn full of straw. I might do a bit of a scrounge. I decided that I wanted to avoid using manure this time if I could, but I do want to improve the soil. That reminds me, I must order some green manure seeds

                        • Well it's grey and cooler here today so off to the plot in a bit. It was much too hot yesterday afternoon to go and do 'work'. Instead I made chutneys and pottered about the house.

I did go to aerobics and by gum it was warm. Neighbours were out on their drive when I got back and asked what I had been doing ... although wearing lycra and dripping with perspiration, you would have thought they might have made a guess. I said aerobics and one of them asked, "Is that like Zumba?"
"No" I said, "less dancing and more clenching and sweating."
I saw one of them actually wince. Too much information?

                          Have a good day.

No time to loose, I need to get a wiggle on & sort a new roof for the chook house before the deluge arrives, look like mid-afternoon until late tomorrow evening is gonna be somewhat damp

Susieq - I used it as a mulch 2 years ago overwinter and everything grew well under it but I put it on really thick and the worms could not come close to taking it down and incorporating it into the soil which was fine by me at the time but it really needs to be broken down so apart from a light mulch which should work fine the compost bin is probably the best route fed in between layers of other material - I will try both. I dug in quite a lot as it was and I think it improved the soil but since I also dug in manure and plenty of seaweed can't be 100% certain. The guy who wrote the book is a hortiwhatdyacallit and it is one of most informative gardening books I have ever read and I have 2 shelves full
