  • A sideways step here. My 'right-on' friend had always (like me) followed her big bro's music tastes of Yes, Genesis, ELO, Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake & Palmer - but one day came out with an absolute enthusism for something a bit - er - disco!

I was entranced - loved it from the first beat - love it still.

    • This has to take me to another blistering dance track of the age -

Had to laugh at an interview that I heard with Sarah Jane Morris this week. She took the lower vocal part with Jimmy Somerville as the descant - she said that they appeared so often on Top of The Pops (miming, as was the thing) that to do something different, they messed about and reversed the vocal parts. Got hauled over the coals for that - they showed the vid of this, but I can't find it now.

And - trivia buffs - the other half of the Communards (the bespectacled keyboard player) is now the ordained Reverend Richard Coles - a part time minister of his parish, and part time media 'head'; and anchor of Radio4 Saturday Live.

                    • Hazel, what a great memory.
When my husband and I first met, he had a strange 'boy' (an apprentice) working for him who was always telling them he was going to be a pop star.

You can guess it was Gary Numan

This is spot on my era - although I do recall being confused when a 'right-on' friend told me at the time that Gary Newman was a victim of severe Hackney. Some time later, I realised that the poor bloke suffered from a skin complaint.

Sitting making Birthday cards and the like for the charity shop. They sell like hotcakes!
Flippin sweating, so I have stopped for a cup of tea
Made a lovely shepherds pie last night, used all home grown veg, even tomatoes for decoration

                              • Afternoon all. Muggy isn't it? Debating whether to brave the M6 southbound and go to that Swedish furniture store this afternoon. It is much too hot and sticky to garden. I was only de-jungling the glass shed and it felt like I had run a marathon. Picked many, many beans, more courgettes and some cukes.
