  • Morning all - lovely morning here. AGM at the allotment this morning (I know, my life is full of excitement and tension). Harvest some courgettes, cauliflowers (they are only little but the little devils bolt if I try and leave them) and beans to make my first batch of Pickled Willy! I picked 7 cucumbers yesterday - yes SEVEN! Might have to make some cucumber relish as well if I can't give them away.

Hoping that son and DiL bring grand-daughter over this afternoon. I want to try out the 2nd hand buggy I bought preparatory to my child minding duties next month. I want to walk along the canal so that we can feed the ducks Have a good day everyone.

        Hows the chess?
Scarlet - Sorry I was away so long but nice to be back and I will be posting regularly :-) Chess was good this year- Calum was runner up in Junior Championship but the winner was a 15 year old with 5 years experience and he has since beat him more than he has lost - they both move to Seniors this year an he will be playing for the Troon C team which is starting up again so no more trips to Stewarton as they won the league and will be poromoted to 2nd Division. I thought that this would have been too early a jump for him in any case but he will remember them kindly as they gave him good experience. He was 3rd at the Stewarton Bonnet Allegro and got £3 - I added a tenner as I won the Best Ayrshire Grade award and we got a family award as well so we had a good day :-) The Troon Prizegiving takes place in early September so I will be pleased to share the stage with him for his second year - I just hope I can keep up with him in future years :-)

          • Good morning all glad to be back - just returned from holiday in Norfolk Broads - temp dropped about 10deg when I arrived back - spent a couple of nights at Salhouse Broads my favourite place on the Broads and was surprised and pleased that the young girl in charge of the boats remembered he from 2 years ago especially since she said she didn't normally remember people. While chatting she remembered the reason - she warned us to get the washing in just in time before a thunderstorm arrived and I gave her a towel in a vain attempt to dry her off after she had gathered all the boats together before taking them to Wroxam. It was a waste of time and eventually she just waded into the water got into her motor boat and set off in the downpour.

Different weather this time with just one or two showers and some cloud followed by 4 lovely sunny days in a row We will return next year

A bit dull this morning but I'll do a couple of hours weeding and then watch Liverpool this afternoon with my brother.

I took Mrs.BB to see them in a village hall in Essex many many years ago, was a brilliant evening we even got to shake hands with the man

Nicos - A truly lovely cake and unless I am mistaken Black is in a spot of bother - if I could just help myself to the White Rook on C4 and it was blacks move it would make things a bit more even - otherwise it's time for Black to resign :-)

                  • Morning all, haven't been on as I took a horrible migraine on Friday night and only just getting over it! Just been in the garden and picked one...and it's the only one...big juicy raspberry. Couple of green toms too, so there is hope I may get something from the garden this year. Hope you are all well. Lovely photos Shen, especially the last one...the little one doesn't look too well in it.

Have a nice BBQ NS, hope the weather stays nice! Hope everyone has a lovely day.

                      • Afternoon everyone. Just got back from taking kids over to Grandma and Granddads. So thought I'd spend a few minutes on the vine and then start my usual jobs.
Going to allotment as well this afternoon to do some weeding and to see how many of my cauliflowers have bolted. Spotted two yesterday but didn't have chance to pull them up. Never have any luck with brassicas
Anyway have a good afternoon everyone

                          • Afternoon all.

You know the fruit cake that I made yesterday for the show next week? It sank in the middle.

So this afternoon I am making mkII fruit cake - and there's enough of the 'reject' to go round.

Apple and mint jelly recipe - goodtoknow

It's really yummy and a friend has given me about 5kg of immature Bramley windfalls.
That's pretty similar to the recipe I use for mint jelly, I also swap out the mint for a Rosemary version.

Shen, you do realise it won't be long and you'll lose most times you play against them...and they wont let you forget about it

I'm back from a weekend in Wales yesterday OH rode in a 25mile race - he was pretty chuffed as he did it in just over 53minutes. It's a course he used to do as a kid so he's used to the hills. A sleepover at my Mums who hasn't been able to do much as she had a knee replacement op 8weeks ago. Her back yard looks better than mine I thought it may need a tidy up but she's certainly hot a better chilli crop than me this year!
Left after breakfast this morning but popped to Cwmcarn forest drive on the way home to walk Stan, popped in their cafe for a light lunch and a coffee before heading home
