  • Morning all. Grey but warm here.
The test drive with the baby buggy went so well that son and DiL are thinking of trading theirs in for a similar model - it has an excellent turning circle - son says he could probably do 'do-nuts'!
Allotment meeting was very positive, we are self-managed now so are the masters/mistresses of our own destiny although the petty-minded whinging of some people never fails to depress me.

I have been up for a couple of hours but have been putting chicken to marinade in a Moroccan spice mix (friends coming for supper tonight) and cutting up veggies for batch #1 of this year's piccalilli. Off to the library to return my books shortly and to water the greenhouse at the allotment on the way home. I may return later if I get all my other jobs done! Whatever you are doing today, enjoy it - even going to the dentist.

    • Morning all! Very wet here the rain is very welcome, my garden is so dry and it gives me an excuse to have an easy day.
Had a bit of a panic when I arrived home yesterday as my boys decided they would let the hedgehog have free roam of the house to exercise while they were busy upstairs on their computers I came home to a house that looked like it had been ransacked every cupboard had been moved out or disturbed! Bl@@dy kids. Hedgehog safely back in his hutch - the boys are goung to make him a mesh covered run this afternoon.

      • Morning all - dull here this morning so will get up to date with family history orders and make arrangements to borrow tables from one of the local churches for the Allotment Show this weekend. Hope the sun is shining wherever you are :-)

Scarlet - swap you three grandsons, (well two - the oldest one doesn't make too much mess), for your hedgehog - I can build a cage easy and no one would complain if I put a hedgehog in it :-)

              • Been threatening rain here all day, heavy grey skies and all the lights on indoors. But not a drop has fallen, we really could do with some.

                    • Afternoon we've had sunshine and heavy rain on and off all day so its a matter of nipping out quick to do a bit of gardening then back indoors to read. I'll be dizzy by the end of the day

                      • Andrew and myself picked another 2 bowls of blackcurrants 1.4kg each this afternoon - the first 2 bowls (2.8kg) produced jam as shown in pics. A second lot in course of preparation. I got zilch from these bushes last year

Hi Jay - I am the webmaster & sales rep for a local society and we survey graveyards etc. and publish our own booklets - so far as research is concerned my area of expertise is mainly local extending to other parts of Scotland and I have provided info. to historians in Canada and Australia who were writing books about the life of individuals who had achieved some fame in golf after they emigrated from here.

Over the years I have also helped a large number of people who were looking for info. about their ancestors usually local to this area although not always - generally they have made a donation to the society or joined same - I don't charge anything for my time and try and use free sources as much as possible but this can easily run into brick walls and mean I have to use scotlandspeople website for some info. which can cost a bit depending on amount of info. involved but usually not more than the cost of 3 or 4 vouchers which can be paid for via our website. This is not an advertised service and is only offered if I think I can provide help to people who enquire by email which I receive as webmaster

Should add I only offer to have a look if the enquiry strikes a chord with me and see how it pans out before saying I need to extend to scotlandspeople or suggest they do it themselves which some prefer.

                              • I've being doing my and my OH's family history for a number of years and like you try as much as possible to use the free resources...unfortunately most of what I want at the moment is on the famous family history site. I'm going to buy the software which is connected to the site but you get 6 months free access to their records so basically it pays for itself. It's a great hobby one you can put down and pick up again months later.
