Always wonder about these 'lifetime' guarantees...is it my lifetime or the item?

..........it could be the lifetime of the company - before they go bust
Must remember this as I picked up a load of S&J Neverbend tools on Freecycle last week. Not bright shiny ones like Hazel's but old weather beaten ones (bit like me really).
One is an amazing 5 pronged cultivator which is on its way to becoming my favourite tool.

Daughter picked up 5 dalek bins at Azda today for £2.50 each - will try and sell them at the show on Sunday for £5 each - proceeds to the Society - wish there had been 20Endeavour to have lived, so that when you die, even the undertaker will be sorry - Puddinghead Wilson's Diary

The market cost of these bins is £28 by your own research; your customers are getting a terrific bargain at about a third of that when they buy at the proposed cost of a tenner.
Your retail price should be what the market can stand (i.e. the bargain price of a tenner each), then your mark is dependent on your canny buying. If your daughter might have seen these at £10 in Asd@, she would have still bought them as a bargain, and you would have sold them at your market price of a tenner (to break even) or - say - £14 as 'half price', and made just enough to buy some communal tea bags.
The fact that you've got them in for £2.50 each just means your making more of a turn for the society funds - and as your allotment society is a not-for-profit organisation where all proceeds are ploughed back in for the good of the society; everyone wins, and you wont have morphed into Gordon Gecko.
If you still feel badly about it, you could knock some off for over 65's, I guess.
By all means bring me into your discussions - my argument would be that you are acting well in the interests of the Society by both offering the bins at approx a third of retail price AND boosting the kitty at the same time - and you will be able to afford more than some communal tea bags for the next AGM.

I would counter your argument, Hazel by saying that the price should reflect what the market will bear and that Shen will know the market better than us.
For example, he may know that everyone on site already has a dalek, or is canny enough to have built their bins from pallets.
If nobody wants a Dalek enough to pay a higher price, then Shen may be going home with 5 unwanted Daleks. So it is better to pitch the price at a level where they will be snapped up, then hang out for an extra quid or two and be stuck with them.
Your move

Or in this case VC - although I haven't a clue what the market will bear - I'm just happy to give my friends on the allotment a bargain - my original thought was just to charge them £2.50 - in any case the Society has plenty of money so it is just a bit of funLast edited by Sheneval; 12-08-2015, 10:04 PM.Endeavour to have lived, so that when you die, even the undertaker will be sorry - Puddinghead Wilson's Diary
