A bit dreich in Aberdeen this morning and everything is wet. That's a real pain in the behookie because I wanted to get a couple of jobs done so that I can be totally free tomorrow.
We have our local NVS members show under glass at the Winter Gardens in Duthie Park on Sunday. That's the one day of the year we don't want sunshine. It's been known for me to return home with leeks with flags like leather and my clothes totally faded. It is really hard on the celery as well but we get the use of the place free and that is an important factor as is the fact that we get loads of folks passing through which helps us raise a few quid to fund next years show.
Mind you, it's a bit of a comedown from last weekend when we were down at Dundee at their Flower and Fruit Festival which hosted the NVS National Championships. I was Show Manager for the NVS competition, first me for that and I was mightily relieved that it all went well. Downside to being show manager is that it restricts my ability to show my own stuff as I need to be setting up the show whenI would otherwise be lifting and washing vegetables. Nonetheless, I managed a credible second in the pea class. (I won it last year). Delighted for the winner who gave me some of his strain of peas a few years back. Who said vegetable exhibiting was cut throat?
