  • Hilarious on the frying dogs typo Chuckle of the morning!

Raining cats and "dogs" outside Don't think much will fry in this weather.

Nasty surprise in the polytunnel this morning. A very nimble fat slug had managed to crawl all the way up to the top shelf, bang in the middle and chew off lots of my Chinese Cabbage leaves and some Swiss Chard as well. I found it "resting" on the side of one of the little pots.

Don't think too much damage has been done. Nothing was razed right back to the stem anyway so hopefully the leaves will just regrow. I've never seen a slug manage to get up to the top shelves before though so wondering now how I can make it even harder for the little critters to do that.

I hate to say it but as much as I get annoyed by them, I'm also incredibly impressed as well. Seems like nothing is a real challenge for slugs when there's food on offer.

    Have a great day all.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

    • Morning all - daughter has taken kitten for inoculations this morning and No.2 has gone with her so I have 1&3 noisily wiping out half the world on Xbox - reminds me of John Wayne. Just as well No.1 cut the back and front grass yesterday or I'd be pulling the plug

      • Morning from a kind of, sunny Dublin. We had about a weeks worth of rain yesterday so at least we have a dry morning. Showers forecast for later.
Off to have my daily walk before it starts raining again.
        Have a good day all.

            • Good evening to you all, and Jay if NVG is into healthy eating surely you know it gets you moving better, (I have found it helps my arthritis) I had quite a nice day today, went to Girvin had some cloud but no rain, also picked up an enviromesh tunnel less than half price from a garden center, can anyone tell me where I could get second hand mesh, as with the weather the way it has been this year I want to be prepaired next year,I have been using lace curtains (as recomended by VC) but got hunted when I asked someone to wash them ( I`m going to learn how to use the washing machine, at the moment I can`t find the operating instructions they could be anywhere after 10 years)
Well I wish you all a good night, and Ladies remember once we men learn how to use the washing machine it`s one less thing we need you for.
              Goodnight, everyone.

                • Evening all...
One thing less we need women for Rary? Did I not just read today that a single man is incomplete, and a married man is finished

Just made some Tomato & Chilli jam, so hopefully it sets OK...
If not, I'll get herself to give it a dirty look...should do it
Am I doing it right Rary? D

Looking forward to the weekend, still slow progress on getting my speech done..

No slugs found in the PT this morning thank goodness. Won't be doing much out there in this weather I think - too wet and cold. Hope tomorrow picks up.

                          • Morning all, rain here, yuk.
Garden has come indoors with potatoes and tomatoes in the front room now.
It's working though, toms are ripening a treat and spuds are drying out ready for their flour bags.
Still got carrots outside to pick when needed
Shopping day today, not my favourite thing
