  • Wonder what BM's new toy is! Sounds intriguing

Up early as out for a day shopping with family.

Spent a silly hour last night trying to unravel a load of crochet to save some wool where I'd gone wrong on a project. After only managing to unravel about 50cms of which the wool was shredded and not looking its best, I concluded that my life's definitely too short to bother doing that again. I'll get some new wool instead. Luckily I make less mistakes now.

Hope everyone has a great day - will gladly swap a shopping session for something else less torturous ...
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

    • Morning all, grey and murky here with the promise of the sun breaking through for a few hours. We'll see.
Off to London on the underground this morning, Hubby has to pick up his Chinese visa, so I'm tagging along with thoughts of lunch at a Spoons pub.
      Have a great day everyone

          • Morning,

Bright sunny and chilly morning. it is market day, i have been wanting to go for weeks but every week something came up so going on a little shopping spree. The main thing to buy is onion seedlings. Will get a load more brassicas, i have given in and am trying cauliflowers again! the few i have in now are growing along nicely, would love to be able to grow this vegetable as i love it so. I wonder what else they will have.
Have to go food shopping as well which i don´t mind but should always avoid the shops on tuesdays and saturdays, it will be even worse today as not only market day but everything is closing up for fiesta week and everyone runs around like the apocalypse is coming. wish me luck

            Have a good one grapes
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

                • Lisa, how do you manage to grow Brassicas in your climate as I thought they preferred cool conditions?

                  • Morning all! It looks like we are all shopping today I want an oven thermometer! Now is it worth trooping around shops looking for one or do I just go online. I'll probably do the latter even though I really want it now.

                    • Look online at your local shops first Scarlet.

                      • Morning

Scarlet you'd probably have more choice of oven thermometer if you look on line, plus you'd be able to read the reviews.

Thats why they get planted winter time. I put my first lot in in August and the calabrese are just starting to form heads and i have one cabbage that is wanting me to pull it. Just August and September you have to water like a mad person and add a little shade. But i cannot grow in the summer time they bolt straight away. I think my last lot will go in at March, but they were small heads and you had to pick quick.

                          • I have a couple- they work really well for me in the wood stove which only offers me low/med/high as an indicator!!!

I recall there are 2 types- up to 300C and 500C
we went for the 300C and probably should have gone for the latter with the woodstove cos we leave it in there all the time.
The face has gone smokey and it's hard to see the exact temp now.
I think we got ours from TKMaxx so can't recall the make.

I'd go for a better quality next time.

Worth looking at the dial to see if it's easy to read cos if there isn't a light in the oven, it can be hard to see/read

                              • Morning all, dull this morning but not too chilly. Hope you all enjoy your shopping trips. As my son is not working today and can 'puppy' sit, I am off to have my hair cut and coloured. Alfie had a comfortable night and ate a few little pieces of kibble so fingers crossed he will be ok!

                                Enjoy your day all!
