    • Long story and have not put on here as quite personal but back in the end August my OH was experiencing tummy pains, after 4 days we went to the medical centre but the doctor did not know what it was, thought appendicitis or gastroenteritis so told us to go to the hospital, we nearly went home thinking if it got worse we would go as the hospital is 45 mins away but we carried on there, luckily we did. We spent 9 long hours in A&E whilst they did tests and scans, thinking the whole time it was nothing and getting angry with being in there. Then they called us through....my husband and i are only 30 and was not even told to sit down and was told he had bowel cancer and it was so bad that he would die within a couple of days if he did not have surgery as the tumour was so massive it had blocked everything and his body was poisoning him. Well what can i say it hit us like a tonne of bricks. We went through the next few weeks in hospital like zombies, i was able to stay with him 99% of the time and it really helped.

Well now we are a couple of months post op and have been waiting desperately for the next stages of his care and finally a hour ago we got the news that we are going to see oncology on Monday. I am so happy as the waiting is the worse part. We do know it has not spread anywhere else but he does have a lot of polyps so need to go through chemo etc The scary thing is that the tumour came from a polyp.

My husband, my other half is so brave and doing a wonderful job recovering.

I did not mean to end up saying it all it has just all come out, so thank you for listening.

              • Glad to hear your husband is getting better. Glad to hear you feel better getting it off your chest. Its a very worrying time. My dad was diagnosed with leukemia this year. Its the waiting, not knowing and trying to keep everything 'normal' that's hard.

                          • Lisa, sorry to hear of what you've been through, although it really does sound like the crisis is over now.
I had surgery for bowel cancer earlier this year. Mine was nowhere near as developed as your OH's but it had spread to a couple of lymph nodes so I had to have chemotherapy. I am now three quarters of the way through so if your OH gets put on XELOX (Oxaliplatin drip and Capecitabine tablets, the standard NHS chemo treatment for bowel cancers) and if you'd like to share experiences, please PM me.

                            • Hi Martin, We have decided to stay in Spain in the end to carry on treatment, but we may well still go back, but pretty sure it will be very similar treatment, just the waiting lists are meant be be in half over here.
I might pm you anyways if that is ok.
I hope you are no the way to recovery and the rest of your treatment goes well.
