Jen, I have removed the photos as this is a family friendly forum and younger viewers would find them distressing. These are photos to be shown to the council who should act upon it - and rapidly IMO - as in today, now, immediate. Not wait until a possible date on Wednesday.

I sincerely hope you can get this resolved speedily.

I know its a pain but it has gone on too long in my opinion. Physically go down to the offices and see someone face to face. Even if they say wed. make sure you ring them every day and pester them. Also take the rats with you as they should be collecting them and burning them, they shouldn't be binned. It just helps with the cringe factor. I know it is exhausting especially with your little ones but make the council ruddy well sort it..........yes, I am an absolute cow when I need something done, shame I didn't live closer

        Oh ok no probs VC.
I've been to see next door and he wasn't in but his employee gave me his number so I text him then he rang me and he seems to want to sort this out but he is the type to say he will do something but do nothing as he has been meaning to clean his garden out for years but still hasn't. I took my rats to the councillor a few doors up and he was shocked to see how many I had caught in one day and in my house. He said he will help where he can and put out another order on the flat but doesn't know what it will actually do.

Keep pestering them, Jen, until something is done. At least you've shared your problem with those who are in position to help.

Just a thought. As you have young children could you speak to your Health Visitor and get them to complain or something on your behalf. The more people on your side the better.

I do have a HV but I hate authority and have as little to do with them as possible, Ive barred her from my house tbh she is awful, others have been nice though but I just dont like authority. Its took me everything to go to my councilor as he is not someone I support and he is crap. The guy who owns the flat has got a guy coming out tomorrow to put posion down and he seems willing to work with me to get rid of the problem. So I hope this will get sorted soon x

Have you checked around your house for any points of access for the rats - and blocked them?

The thing is that if you don't eradicate the source of the problem they will be back. Some years ago a house about 5 doors down from me had an very unkempt garden and rats. They ran all over the terrace fortunately not in the houses. No matter how much poison we put down we didn't get rid of them until they were eradicated from the other persons garden.

You might not like authority but from time to time they can work in your favour.

Ive blocked all areas where I think they are getting in, I am going to have a look behind my kick boards in the kitchen when I manage to get them off.
The guy is due out tomorrow to put stuff down in the garden and the out house next door, Ive still got traps down and the council is due out on wed. I am going to see how this week plays out with all of them people coming out, if I dont get any futher I think I might go to the papers

Just wondered how you were getting on and if the Council really did turn up?

well, the council turned up yesterday and gave me the same old story.. there is no interceptor cap in my drain and that's how the rats are getting in blah blah blah.. He had no interest in the fact that they are living in the out house next door and the evidence I have. He more or less questioned whether I had caught any rats all together till I showed him the container with 9 in it that I had left outside. But still he went on about an interceptor cap, so again I rang round places to get one most don't sell them then I rang a drain specialist place and he said the ones they make now are rubber and are crap as the rats just chew through them, he told me to make one after I told him the bother of the rats I am having he went into detail of how I can make my own and kill rats that might wanna chew on it. So I am going to do that today when I get some cement and stuff from work.

Saying that (touch wood) I've not seen or caught another rat since Tuesday night...

Let's hope you have seen the last of them. If you have done all you can to stop them getting in then it is up to the owner of the outhouse to do something. You may need to get the council on board again if they are still around.

I've yet to read all pages but I too have had this and know the annoyance this causes. My issue was that I had sanded down floorboards and all the blue bottles got through into the house. When I came home from work it was like my windows had new curtains that were black and pulsated. Horrible time...

Because I had floorboards I could lift I would constantly spray fabreeze or a detol spray to kill back some smell. Then I had airfreshners dotted about.
