I'm about 2 miles from the plot, but grow Toms, Chillis, Lettuce, Salad Onions and Courgettes at home, so I can take some daily.

An onion can make people cry but there's never been a vegetable that can make people laugh.

Basil on kitchen windowsill so a couple of inches, other herbs outside front door so a couple of feet, the rest about 6' away in the garden. Oh, I did 'aquire' a huge lettuce at the weekend from an allotment maybe 40miles away (visiting family) so maybe thats the furthest so far?!

Hmmm, herbs about 5 or 6 foot. Other veggies about a four minute walk from the house to the plot.

i had a rotten tomato and it travelled 5 gardens across when i threw it
the rest normally goes straight from garden to compost bin cos i usually manage to kill it or let it die
did have a couple of spinach that made it across the road to girlfriends house last year - made lovely sag aloo with it - this year we'll try having curry with it as well

            Hi

My cauliflowers traveled the least, I planted them, they started to form, and then the slugs ate them!

Two of my cucumber plants, too, travelled straight into the mouths of snails. Doesn't really matter how far your food goes if you walk or bike with it, and bus is the next best way. Does anyone on here personally fly their food into the country?

Soft Fruit sometimes only travels an inch or two horizontaly and a couple of feet vertically. From bush to mouth.

That sound just like the journey my strawberries make

And if only we could grow lemons in this country could be strictly non airmiles on the fruit front. I know I can grow lemons but it's going to be a long wait for my plants to mature and would never have enough fruit.
                  Oh well

Yep - me too! Not one pea has made it to the kitchen yet.

2 miles for most stuff although the first of the sweetcorn goes about 8 feet to the pan thats boiling away in the shed.

Sounds like we are all doing our bit! I love the way threads evolve on here. Particularly farmer gyles' take on 'tomato throwing!' Tomatoes definately travel through the air better than, say, a pumpkin, but which vegetable travels the best!? Possibly the round courgettes? Bet they'd fly!

Is this a new sport evolving?? Baby melons? Might be a bit of cricket ball syndrome there tho.
