I do have another hobby I've not mentioned because it's not craft based. As Jay-ell uses them for jewellery, I think I can get away with telling the world....... I collect semi precious rocks/stones.

I do have another two boxes full, but don't have the space to display them all.

        #31.

Talking of rock a good few years back I was taught how to cut and polish stones the pics are of my work piece a sort of before and after.

Being a caver and knowing a back way into the Blue John mine the idea was to make myself a few shillings. Then I found out how much the equipment would cost.

Talking of rocks again, anyone know what this specimen is, a clue, it is very old vegetation.

Is it fossilised wood? Acacia maybe? Or it's sweet corn .
I love your cut and polish stone. Is it one of the agates? I do a bit of rock tumbling ( run out of polish at the moment). Never tried cutting stone. Your right it's a very expensive hobby to get into!

Yes it's an agate but not sure which one. I had this thought Blue John plus cutting and polishing = a few shillings but the set up cost + my skill levels (LOW) and my artistic flair (NONE) meant I would still be trying to pay the costs back.

              Your very close think Jurassic.

                Looks like a fossilised Equisetum?

I feel totally overwhelmed by all your wonderful crafts/art/hobbies.
Look, I don't even have time to do the housework properly ....
Not gonna whinge, or wish my life away, but am looking forward to the time when I can spend my days in the garden as I choose.
So in the meantime, I'll just admire everyone else's talent

#38 Nothing so exotic I am afraid, it is part of a tree that grew thousands of years a go, now more commonly known as ........................coal.

I retrieved this lump (see pen) from an open cast mine a few years back, the funny thing is your hands do not get dirty when you handle it.

I love arts and crafts. Some years I focus on one thing other times I dip in and out as I find the inspiration. I've always been interested in art and worked as a children's designer before I had the kids, having to move out of London was difficult but it's no place for babies. I love to paint portraits but they take too long, so shorter projects are best for me. I have an interest in all things flowers, love colour and love to cook.

Cards are quick and easy to do, I sew, use pressed flowers, bits of wire, paint and fabrics.

                          Paintings half finished

I've a friend that has a kiln, it's good to do something when we meet for coffee. These pendants are made with all the scrap glass from her OH projects.
I love to cook and the last few years I've got into the cake decorating side- love it more than the cooking itself

You are so talented Scarlet, was going to post a pic of my cardmaking, but after seeing yours I'll not bother lol.
Generally, folks out there will not pay what hand made cards are worth, so I keep mine simple and it works.

Thank you Sally, put yours up everyone has different taste! I occasionally sell them but like you say it's hardly worth it. I now give 'packs' to friends as thank you gifts etc or swap them with friends that make stuff too. They come in handy.

My first love, after gardening of course is reading. I visit the library at least once a week, half hours walk each day which take care of one days exercise.
I knit and sew. I have been doing a bit of quilting by hand over many years but only comes out in the winter. I have cut up old dresses belonging to my daughters, a lovely selection of aprons whicg belonged to my aunt and some lovely floral shirts that were my sons when he was a small boy and which i could'nt bear to part with .
I hope i live long enough to finish it but i wont be holding my breath.
When i look at it it reminds of my family and when they wore the garments.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
