  • New allotment pics

    Hi,
Just posted some updated allotment pictures. Went
down today and have finished most of the clearing.
Looks as if the raised beds are rotten so will start lifting them next week.

You'd be amazed what we have found so far. Over the past three days we have found 2x 10ft posts, two buckets full of mucky water, a hoe, a rake, a watering can, a soil sieve, a trowel, two spade handles, some slate tiles and a family of mice living in one of the compost bins.
We have built up quite a pile ready to be sorted through a couple of other plot holders have been over to have a look and seem quite impressed with our little hoard

You've done really well NVG considering what it was like when you got it................A nice blank canvas to plan for next year.

It's amazing the difference you have made in such a short space of time.

Sorry it has taken me a bit to reply. We went down today and stripped the carpets up and found most of the beds have rotted away. Think it was the carpet and the weeds keeping them together.
So we have lifted most of them now and the soil is really nice and soft. Lots of small bricks but they are easy to pick up and put in a bucket.

This reminded me of the cr*p I found on my allotment when I took it over, bearing in mind it was under 10ft tall brambles.
2 completely rusted out wheelbarrows, various rotten corrugated sheets, remnants of an old shed, various tree cuttings that had been dumped by the person living t'other side of the fence. Oh, and a spare front wheel (I assume for a ROAD ROLLER!) - this now serves well as an incinerator!
