6" that is not much I can presume that the one opposite is also just an air vent?

Would anything like this be of help? At least it would divert the airflow downwards it covers a 9" x 6" vent,

It's not opposite. The walls are 90 degrees to each other which is why the vents would be so close. That is an idea Pots, another one is to have a vent continue along the outside wall to take the fumes away. We've decided to do as we are told but never turn the thing on and use the recirculation option as originally planned after the build is signed off.

Update. Busy busy week. Son turned up at sparrow's f@rt this morning to finish wiring the dining room so that the builder can plaster the ceiling. Son's comment when walking in was how cold the house is and we've got to get the boiler in soon as I can't go through the whole winter like this. I've just goe through 2 of them!

Anyway, boiler's ordered, underfloor heating pad (with touch screen control) ordered, shower ordered, flooring ordered. Units arrive on Thursday, cooker on the 8th December, cooker hood was faulty and there wasn't another in the country so the replacement is coming from Sweden (guess who we bought it from) on Sunday. The gas is being reconnected on Friday. And I'm in the middle of painting my bedroom and I need to paint the kitchen before the units start being installed next weekend.

Phew! and I'm sure I've probably missed something. I've waited 12 years for this and it's all happening at once. We'd probably have been slower if it wasn't for Christmas.

And I want CAKE. But I refuse to buy it and I haven't got an oven at the mo.

Just had an email, the boiler arrives tomorrow. Had a conversation with one of my immediate neighbours. A bit weird. I was at her parents wedding so I've known the family for several decades. She and her boyfriend had an early night on Friday and were kept awake by my son's noise whilst he plumbs and re wires the house. She was philosophical about it as all our neighbours have done it over the last few years and a few sleepless nights means that the noise is over faster.

She had not a clue that our mutual neighbour had effectually cut off my heating and hot water for 2 years and was horrified. Perhaps I should talk to my nice neighbours more.

Had to take the dogs out, the windy picks and their barking gave me a headache. I came back to my kitchen fitter asking how much allowance was there for the fridge/freezer doors opening. I had never thought of that. I assumed that they'd be like ordinary doors and would open within the space of their own frame. As I haven't actually ordered the fridge/freezer yet as we don't have room to store it, I can't answer the question.

Oh my whatsit, this house is cold. They've left all the doors open.

                  ^^^^ yep- that's pretty standard!
                  cold house seems normal

I'm going to need a soak in a hot bath this evening just to thaw out!!

The fridge needs to open more than 90 degrees to allow for the shelves to come out easily
Most fridges have left and/or right openings- best to check first!
Left hinged fridges are best for right handed peeps- but it depends where it is in the kitchen .

Mine only hinges on the right and is a pain as far as I'm concerned.

Just checked my fridge door. Its built in with a door to match the units. The door opens to 90 degrees against a wall. The shelves tilt and lift so that you can remove them. Freezers with drawers may be more difficult if the door doesn't open wider.

I have had this picture in my head of the kitchen I want. I've compromised from country kitchen to modern to suit my son. the kitchen is now going in and I have a major, major problem. There are no handles. The handles are grooves in the tops(and bottoms) of the doors. I had these in my last kitchen, they just catch all the drips and crap and need constanting cleaning out. His argument for this kitchen is the easy clean. oh, how wrong. It's going to cause me so much extra work

It's your kitchen so should have been what you want. If he wants something different then he should keep it clean. Simples.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Is it too late to change the doors to what you want?

Gosh Janie....didn't you check out the doors face to face before you said you'd have them?
I'm paranoid about touching and handling things forst which I want to buy...to to make sure it's right for me.
I'm pretty sure you could change the doors unless they are bespoke ?
Personally I'd go with changing them if that's how you feel...we lasses have enough to do without having to faff around with cleaning and polishing cupboard doors!

                            My kitchen update......
Work surfaces now cut to size. Should be fully fitted on Monday

Sounds a little like my son I am sure he is prepping the house ready for when he ................... inherits!

Only last week my new double glazing got ungraded to triple glazing, his mate is doing the job at a very reasonable price but it is still another few hundred squids.

So, my son was supposed to stop off today on his way back from work and see how we're getting on. The dogs knew he'd been, left his van and taken the car (joint ownership).

We have a problem. Son is so, so busy and stressed out I don't know how to tell him that one of the sockets he's put in will be useless as it will be covered by the bookcase that is going back on the wall. He knew this and he knew the depth of it. I've just put the furniture in situ without attaching it and hope he sees for himself without me saying anything.

He had already forgotten that the carpets were being fitted on Tuesday including his room which is still full of furniture and not likely to be cleared in time. I will do my best but I really need some more muscle to do it.

He didn't really take on too much at the time but he didn't expect his boss to take on an urgent job where he's working 16 hour days to complete a job before Christmas.

The kitchen will be useable but not finished. As long as no.2 son will accept this we will be OK.

At the moment the thing I want most is a sink and a drain downstairs. I can deal with most of everything I need except washing up which is a complete nightmare.
