I agree. With silver I would have chosen amethyst or maybe fire opal. Beautiful workmanship though, Sam, your lass should be thrilled.

I also agree that making a copy or a similar item would diminish the gift. It would no longer be "special".

No worries Sam As mothhawk above picked up my first two thoughts were subjective The Mod one was cautionary

Is your chosen stone by any chance your good ladies birthstone ?

No but she loves smoke quartz and it was picked for hardness (and cost per carat ) fire opal/opals are delicate beasties and she's a clumsy mare, I did think of amethyst but decided on it's darker cousin due to a few reasons, the picture doesn't do the silver or stone true justice as it's sort of Orange looking, I imagine this is down to lighting. I will get a better picture maybe: ) I love the look of the copper but it tarnishes so fast, I may have to look into rose gold maybe? I've got some white topaz coming and potentially some garnets to practice stone setting so more fun times ahead.
I don't imagine anything I make will be like this piece as I can't quite remember how I did it all!
It's been a very enjoyable adventure!

Yeo, rose gold will (I think) look well with that colour stone

You're very knowledgable about stones and metals, Sam. I haven't a clue what a fire opal looks like - or rose gold for that matter

lots of research and intresting subject matter VC, ive got a few stones winging to me so I'm going to attempt to make a ring and some pendants next. might be I can get away with everyones xmas presents being crafted, nothing quite as nice as the ladies gift though I should think.

oh and heres a better picture, daylight is far better for the true colour of things.

I almost forgot to upload that, dug over 2 beds at the lottie and I'm knackered.

                It's stunning! Lucky lady!
You must feel very pleased with your craftsmanship, and rightly so.
