Just been out a walk with the dog, it is so mild and calm at present, why can't we get it like that during the day? Well time for bed, and I will get to sleep no bother as my feet will be cool. Goodnightit may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Morning All Nicos, Nicos - what news? Much colder here this morning. I've booked Monday off to make another long weekend. It's eldest GGs birthday on Sunday, so we're all going for a family meal (which she says she is not cooking as she's a princess for the day - she's a princess most of the time anyway!) and I can lollop about on the Monday doing nothing. Have a good day and a great evening whatever you're doing. I'm really not bothered about NYE and nor is Himself so we will be having a quiet evening and in bed before midnight.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

What's everyone up to today/his evening?
We usually prefer a quiet new year in and make a lovely meal together but next door is having a spesh do as it's also her birthday and retirement do rolled into on.
Think I'll need to try and get 40 winks in at somepoint today just to make it til midnight"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Morning all from a sunny but cold Nestland, I'll be staying warm indoors tonight & will venture to kip once the noise dies down. Have a good one.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Morning all - blue skies here and a light breeze. Off to see Star Wars later with No 2 son, then round to No 1 son's to spend NYE with D-in-law. No 1 son is working. It will be a nice evening though, cuddles with the grand-daughter before she goes to bed.
I am going to get dressed and go out for a nice long walk - feel really average. Too much food, drink and idling about. Get some fresh air and exercise, before I have some more food, drink and idling. Happy New Year to you all. Enjoy your evening whatever you are doing. There's a lot to be said for sleeping.

Still waiting to speak with Hibou's eye specialist but the update is, so far.....
( and don't read any further if you are a) eating b) at all squeamish!!!!! )
At the time of her accident it seems she fractured the bone orbit of her eye and got a massive bruise in there which travelled down as far as her salivary glands which were mostly crushed by the blow.
As the bruising healed it then went rotten and created a large open area inside her head/ throat which is now filling with saliva.
It's that which is coming out of her eye and mouth and hole in her neck.
Her inner eyelid is paralysed because the nerves to it were also damaged/ pulverised by the blow.
So...what next?
Well, the specialist has said that because of complications we should just keep her eye and neck clean for the next few months and see how her body carries on healing itself. Stop all antibiotics too.
If she were operated on it would mean extensive breaking of jawbone/skull to get to the back of the eye to start clearing away all the affected tissue meaning pinning of bone and hospitalisation....which may need repeating 3-4 times. Each time risking losing her eye. Each time costing well over £1,000.
And nope...no pet insurance .
She's a happy lass, with a gunky runny eye and neck which needs regular care and attention and it would seem cruel to put her through all that without giving her a chance to see what her natural outcome would be.
Good to know it's only saliva.
We're waiting to see if the eye specialist wants to remove the inner eye so she can see better, but it may mean the eyeball dried out more????...we'll chat with him.
At least we've done the right thing so far
The MRI specialist said if she actually heals up she'd make a really interesting subject for a veterinary paper as he's never seen or read about this sort of extent of damage from a blow to the head with the cat being neurologically totally normal,( bar the inner eyelid)
And so.....thanks for all your support and good wishes for her...it's 3 months ago tomorrow since the accident and she's been an absolute star tolerating all the man handling.
I'll update in a few weeks, but wanted to say I appreciate your support peeps... Yep...she's 'only a cat' but heck...what a survivor eh????.....you're all stars in my mind"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Only a cat? I know when we lost our old lady, we were devastated and that was knowing she had had a good innings. She was as much part of the family as I'm sure Hibou was before her accident and probably with an even closer bond now and your pusscat is a mere youngster.
Hope she continues to improve and hopefully, if someone is interested enough to write a paper, they may know someone who might be prepared to do some surgery pro bono to give the paper a super ending .
Everyone needs a Hibou
