  • Once upon a time

I bought a 4ft 4tube t5 growlight off the bay. It was supposed to be collect only but the seller kindly agreed to despatch by carrier. In the event it arrived with a couple of broken tubes. Now normally I would have had a go at the seller and tried to recover the cost of replacement tubes but decided not to because he co-operated when I asked him to depart from his collect only strategy.

Anyway, I ordered up a couple of replacement tubes from a company which trades on the net. Cost me almost £22 including £6+of a delivery charge.

On arrival,it was immediately obvious that two different specification of tubes had been delivered. The colouring on the tube ends being different. On contact, the selling firm agreed without any problem to replace the wrong tube (and said keep the wrong one as it wasn't worth the cost of sending it back. No use to me anyway but hey ho).

Anyway, they have been unable to source a correct replacement tube and have refunded the cost of one tube but no refund of carriage.

I wouldn't have ordered a single tube from them with that level of carriage and if I now source elsewhere will have more carriage to pay.

I've said that they should have checked the tubes before despatch and if they had, there would not be a problem. I've also invited them to refund the whole carriage charge as that is the only way I will not be out of pocket . There has been no response.

My inclination is to give them another chance to refund the carriage but to let them know that if they don't then I shall distribute suitable feedback via the various forums to which I contribute.

    Anyone got any better ideas?

I would actually phone up, i feel you get a better response when talking to someone as it can be more personal. Maybe say you will meet half way as you have one tube but they should pay for the other. its worth another try.

Just had a problem with a boots delivery, phoned them, they were very helpful and refunded missing items with no questions.

I would if BT's call charges weren't so steep and I foresee a long phone call which would just mean chucking good money after bad. Used up my mobie free calls this month because of a family bereavement otherwise would have used that

              All goods must be:
              as described
              of satisfactory quality and
              fit for purpose
If they're not, the retailer is in breach of contract and you have a claim under the Sale of Goods Act.

                  sent the following

Two years ago I sent for some plumbing gear and paid by Visa card. It was most unsatisfactory on arrival. From the seller nor replies to my e-mails, no replies to my voice mails.

Contacted Visa, they sent me a form to fill in, two weeks later full refund.

Regarding your first parcel, do the courier company not accept any responsibility for safe handling?

Even more reason for them to take care.

                            Hi Guys!

This is my line of business! let me explain!

Point A being the seller! who bangs it on Ebay or wherever, flogs it to you or I, then decides which method of desatch he or she shall choose to forward it on.

Once wrapped and packaged by point A (Courier Company has no input or influance as to the way this is done!)

Depending as to what point A as selected with regard movement, that being local courier collects from home, it's dropped at a local collection point, or is sent direct, still no involvement as to the way it is packaged by the courier company!

It arrives at the local depot for despatch to wherever it may be, still not touched by the courier service selected, now passed by three hands, and sent in the condition it arrived in!

It really makes my "Blood Boil" When as always it comes back to the courier company involved, which I am answerable too!

Just package the chuffing things right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
