  • Broadband Usage

Just got a warning from Bt that it looks as though I will exceed my data allowance this month. Set alarm bells ringing in my head but then read that video streaming for example on youtube uses heaps fo data. Whoops. Spent nearly a day on the tube last week watching and listening to Judith Durham and the Seekers mostly but also watched heaps of other stuff.

Note to self. Restrict use of Youtube

Our two lads do online gaming for hours, watch videos etc, so we have unlimited broadband. We kept going over and having to pay extra so was cheaper to go unlimited.

Does it still really work like that........ we pay for unlimited but have restrictions on downloads and uploads, not the amount i watch on youtube.
      Is this on a mobile?

sorry , the companies version of unlimited is reasonable usage, so if you streaming video, download torrents, anything that uses a lot of data they throttle your connection aka slow it right down.

Im with BT with a 20gig limited. My norm is around 6 gig

My daytime free time/boredom time will only be for a few more weeks so not worth going unlimited for that. I just need to be disciplined.

We switched to EE unlimited. Step-daughter has decided that her whole life is on tinternet and is permanently connected to her friends with skype from getting in from school until going to sleep.
I think it's really unhealthy and want to restrict her internet time, but OH doesn't agree.

I've tried to restrict my kids time on the Internet Skeggi but it is now the norm, it is their social life! I can remember my grandmother moaning about TV. I don't watch it now. My kids go to school, do their homework, exercise most days, sometimes the gym, rugby etc and then in their free time they game with their mates. I don't like it but how can you tell them to go and read a book rather than talk to their friends? You can't. They now do their homework together via Skype!

As for Internet data, we work from home and require a fast internet service with unlimited download....we wondered why we were having a troop of kids come to our house on the weekends complete with laptops etc. they could download their data faster and not have their parents moan!

My granddaughter use to come in the door get out the tablet connect to my wi-fi and that was it.

Therefore I unplugged my box and refused to plug it in for the first hour of her visit. We now have a conversation do puzzles etc and quite surprisingly she never mentions the tablet until I remind her.

Perhaps that's why I am known as Grumpy Granddad.

Oh when I first did it there were grumbles of discontent. But she is 13 like I said to her it's time to start growing up. After all I had do to part time jobs, paperboy and a Saturday job at your age to earn my treats.

That turned the conversation into what life was like back in the late 50s, when I started to reel off what we didn't have she wouldn't believe me at first.
