That'll be £20 or a large glass of red wine, thank you
    Thanks for that VC.

To be honest, we hardly use the dryer - we normally make a big hat from bubble wrap, put that over the damp washing and the heat dries it in no time. I'll post a pic when I've got time (or when I'm drunk enough).

What the ek are they playing at,
Has anyone got theirs sorted yet,i was tolled would hear in aprox 7 days nadda, sis has had a new replacement all within aprox 3.5 weeks,as no more spare bits are available to upgrade,
I just rang hot point to see whats occuring,to be tolled that it's aprox 8 weeks from reporting,as they are inundated,if i heard nothing in 2 weeks time then ring again,he said,i could re register today, but could set me back another 8 weeks ,also the one i got should be ok ,so if i have to ring again,it will be god knows how long,
Another bit off advice to pass on is,when you are delivered your new replacement, ring in and check it also,as some older stack have been missed and passed on,so have to be replaced a second time, also,if you do need to repace it before they get back to you, keep it until they do ,this info has come from others customers.
NO i am not panicking, but these things can and do,as i heard about from the horses mouth so to speak, son keeps ours regulaly de fluffed,it gets taken outside for an extra clean, this on top of the filter clearance,we are lucky that someone else can do this for us,or,you never know, keep safety first.

ours is old, in fact we got it more than twenty years ago second hand. It doesn't get used a lot but it's great for finishing off towels and fluffing them up. Way back in October, it stopped heating, just before I went into hospital and I couldn't look at it until recently.

Took the guard off at the back expecting to see a heating element all the way around the drum. No such thing. The heating element is about half the size of a 400gm box of ruskoline.

The switch mechanism had a bit of fluff between the contacts. Pulled that out, gave it a going over with the vaccuum and stuck it back together. Working great.

We were on the verge of buying a new un too.

Trying desperately to remember the point of my post which I think was that even 20 years ago, they were made to last and were made properly and that just isn't the case with modern machines.

We have only had our just over a year. Hotpoint said 5 weeks until they would get back to me, I reckon that was about 8 weeks ago. In the meantime when not in use we are switching off at the wall and also making sure the fluff collector is kept clear. Will let you know if I hear from them lottie!

I got mine modified last Thursday, the bit they replace is the entire back metal panel as its rough to the touch and needs to be smooth to stop fluff sticking to it.

I started complaining to Hotpoint support during Christmas over twitter about lack of action, they contacted me quietly and privately over Twitter, apologising. Then suddenly I get a text with a time and date they are coming round.

              Coincidence???

I still had to take a day off work though.

Thanks Potty, just read your post this morning and checked my daughter's drier and its one of the potential problem driers,so using VCs guide I have registered her machine. So thank you very much for this post.

Hello everyone, just had an email from Hotpoint. Modification due round about March time! Below is a copy of email for information.

Thank you for registering your tumble dryer to be modified to improve its safety and quality performance. The safety of our customers is our number one priority and every customer matters to us. Therefore, the necessary modifications will be made on a first-registered, first-served basis.
While we cannot provide a definite revised modification date at this time, we are making every effort to have your tumble dryer scheduled for modification as soon as possible. We apologise for this inconvenience and we thank you for your patience.

Click here for your estimated repair date
Your status is updated regularly so please keep this email for reference.

We remind you that while you wait for the necessary repairs to be made, you can still continue to use your dryer as normal, provided that you take the following sensible precautions:

Do not leave the dryer unattended when in operation (i.e. do not leave the house or leave the dryer on whilst asleep)
To ensure any excess fluff is removed after each use, make sure you follow the guidelines for proper cleaning and maintenance as outlined in your user manual. You can also view a simple video on cleaning your dryer, by clicking either Vented Dryer or Condenser Dryer.

The phone no i had for contacting them, has now been withdrawn/discontinued,i still not heard from them,i have made contact via VC's link, but had to guess at the date off purchase,i hate to think if i tolled a lie,son looked at some plastic molding bits,1 being the filter,it has a date of manufacture of the parts, but no clue as to what date they were put on the machine,or how long for that matter, have the machines been in storage for,I must be invisible,

If you've got one and still use it (with fully working smoke detector), having watched that I'd buy a fire extinguisher too.

Me too Lotty! Although I did recieve the same confirmation email Jay received!

Funny enough! On my way to work this morning, listening to the radio, there was a bit of a stink being brandished from the fire service as to how many alerts and call outs they have to attend for said faulty machines! Maybe someone will take heed n step up a gear!

On one off VC links,it says in a little line, about getting a discount on a new machine,if more than 2 years old,but no other info as how,or how much, neither did it say anything about if that exonerates them from making the repair, mmmm, ours vents to the outside of the wall ,thus it is draughty up the inside vent,so if it took fire it would get fanned, ooooooeeerrrrrrrr,it is never left alone, and regularly cleaned,
