  • Whites or colours wash help please

I have got 2 pairs of very light blue jeans that are a bit stained so have bought a similar product to v@nish and am about to put them on a boil wash. Well i bought some for whites and some for colours. I would wash these jeans on a lights wash but which cleaning stuff shall i use as i do not want to make them lighter. The confusion

    Help please

Not sure of the detergent to use Lisa but won't boiling your jeans shrink them?!

I had oily stains on mine and just rubbed a little fai*y liquid into the stain and just washed in normal detergent at 40 degrees...result, no stain.

I guess the coloured one wouldn't be as harsh as to remove the colour.

Yep- I'd go for the colour one.

I would use the one for colours, I should imagine the whites one has a bleaching agent of sorts in it. I am another one that goes with rubbing something into the stain (vanish soap bar usually) then washing.

Oh yes, the coloured detergent not the one for whites for the reasons above!

Hi Lisa. Aren't there any instructions on the stuff you bought? Washing products for whites usually contain bleaches, so if you don't want them lightened you should probably go for the colours version. Yes boiling your jeans might shrink them as Jay22 says, but also, if they are biological stains, high temperatures will probably fix them in instead of removing them, especially if they are protein based stains like blood or food. So I think a cool wash is better, with maybe a soak beforehand and some hand rubbing. If you know exactly what stained them you could google it. There's lots of stain removal info online.

^^^ oh gosh yes- I'd forgotten about hot temperatures fixing colours!

Thing with hand rubbing is you can take out some of the base colour and when it comes up clean you get a pale patch where you rubbed it.

Why are these things so complicated???

Seeing as it seem the current thing to buy new jeans with wear holes in, I would just wear the stains proudly.
