we are all different but for me I kept putting my back out for years ,so I learnt to put it back in myself, I knew heat helped which started me thinking and trying things the doc was no help, had to call an ambulance once , no help either, anyway thinking about heat I tried a thin sheet of magnetic material and stuck it to my back one night (you can tell I was getting desperate) next morning I was a lot better thinking it was the magnetic field I did some research only to find out weak magnets were no use at all so thought some more , must be the reflected body heat I kept the magnetic sheet stuck to my back some how for days and it helped a lot , in the end I bought a neoprene kidney belt to keep my lower back warm and wore it all day and night for weeks , now I wear it when I'm working only , just my belief but I think keeping it warm alowed my back heal better I still do the same work and don't give in but now 18months later I have little back trouble , still put it out about 4 times a year but it goes back in quicker and is less painful must be better than 4 times a month I chose neoprene because I windsurf and wear a wet suit
    that's my story

I've never really had a problem apart from once when I was pouring 2 glasses of orange juice and turned quickly to talk to someone. I have no idea to this day what I did but I the only way I could turn for 3 days was to carefully slide my feet around. And that was 30 years ago. Nowadays I just creak. My doctor says I don't have arthritis or rheumatism. All I know is that I ache sometimes. Paracetemol helps. I think at my age I'm getting away very lightly. My Aunty at 89 went up a mountain like a goat last year. I suspect I've inherited my genes from that side of the family.

I must ask Evans, why go to hospital if you are not going to take their advice, a torn muscle can be very painful, and it takes time to heal, so just rest and read some books, and remember if they are gardening books, you can always pass on advice to us (me)
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Im doing what they told me to do, but I just wondered what other people done when they have bad backs. Like if they wore a heat pad on their back, what do they do to prevent it getting worse etc...

Unfortunatly Ive got no other choice but to do what the doc says :/

I went to the Chiropractor monthly for about 5 years, he always advised hot followed by cold. So I bought a long thin bean bag that could either be microwaved or put in the freezer.

My back can play me up sometimes especially when I have done a lot of heavy lifting. I put it down to when I had the kids. I just take some paracetamol and slow down a bit
All you can do really is take the hospitals advice and rest it down a bit.
