When you should take your Christmas tree down.......and why!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
I won't have to make that decision this time because I was too busy before Christmas to put any decorations up. My tree is a very small one growing in a pot so it doesn't need to come down, and it has no decorations to take off it. And the Christmas cactus can go on blooming as long as it wants.
When I was a kid in England we always took ours down on 6th January. That article says the Czechs do the same. Maybe Ovce domaci will come along and tell us if that's true. As far as I remember, Slovaks usually leave theirs up for the whole of January. But now I'm living close to the Czech border so maybe they do things the Czech way around here. We have a huge tree on our village green so I'll try to take note of when that comes down. But it might be more to do with when the machine and workers are available to do it than a matter of tradition.
Had to take ours down on Tuesday as it was in the awning, aren't leave the awning up in yesterdays winds. Beautiful here this morning, what a difference a day makes
Me too, doesn't seem worth putting them up if you take them down any sooner unless you have to. Have always been told it was unlucky to leave them up after 12th night but was surprised that the linked article claims early is unlucky as that's not the story I've ever been told. Tradition for us is up he weekend before Christmas and down 12th night. Just feels right.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Too late, ours came down yesterday! Have never kept them up til the 5th.
Out of curiosity, how come you always take it down so early? (always find alternative family traditions interesting), it always seems strange to me when decorations aren't up at New Year. As all my family have always done the 12th night tradition, Christmas lights have always doubled up for New Year too whether it be in my own home or sparkling on the tree when I get home (on the odd occaision I've been out these days!)

Her reason was that she would not drag the old year into the new one.
That makes sense (but still keeping mine up )

My Sons family and my Daughters family both took their tree and decorations down on 27th Dec!
Miserable gits!
Our tree is still up and will stay up until twelfth night!
