  • So, what gardening stuff did you get for XMas, and, will you use it?

I got £50 gardening vouchers from my son, along with a Gardening Tips calender and Gardening diary, which I will use because I told all that I made the mistake of not writting down what and when I planted things, so now remedied. I also got a "Dr Who" looking scarf that I`m told to wear on the allotment to keep out the cold...as if I needed telling that...ACHOOO! parden me.

    Happy new year.

I can't read the label of that Mothhawk, trying to figure out what it's for?

I got some really nice gardening presents this year. A bulb planter, which I'm keen to try out (never had one before), also some anenome de caen corms, which I soaked and planted yesterday. Plus some amarylis bulbs for the house, a gardening calendar, and some gardeners handcream. And also a posy vase for sweet peas.

I got a pair of gardening gloves for Christmas & used them the other day earthing up some potatoes. Whenever I own a bulb planter, the one I just had was from wyvale, they're ok for a few bulbs then I end up crushing it & I have to re shape it with my hands. Good for planting bulbs under the grass but they do weaken if you use them....Happy new year!!!

........and several gardening books................that I bought myself
If I don't like them, or use them, I've wasted my money

I actually quite like the poppy bird feeder thing.
I got a funky garden kit, which contains different seeds, i got one last year and it is still sat unopened, i seems to nice to open the pack but i should.
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

The poppy bird feeder has a major drawback. It is a cast iron "bowl" and there is no hole for water to drain out, so as soon as it rains, it will fill with water, turning any food in it to mush. As a bird bath, it's too small a diameter, yet too deep a bowl. Not designed by anyone who regularly feeds birds, I think

I'd use it in the garden to help prop up any drooping plants.
I was given some gardeners soap which will get used...always handy

A boot jack that I bought for myself. I've always had a problem with boots, not just wellies but all boots. I have a high instep and getting them on and off is a nightmare. Putting them on I can cope with but pulling them off can take quite some time.

I got a gardening journal, several seed packets and labels, gardeners hand cream (essentially just hand cream!) and a massive seed tin which organises in to months - I love it!!

I got reconditioned old fashioned cast iron trowel and fork set. Can't wait to try it. Also gloves and a kneeling pad.
