    • You'll get fat Nanny!

Brrrrrrr freeeeeezing here this morning. Out early but I warmed the car up for 10mins before I got in it though we still have frost on the ground at is 10 o'clock. Back to bath in an hour, having my hair cut and a few honey coloured streaks added....I need to hide the silver that is creeping in!

Sons No2 driving is coming along nicely, drove home yesterday without error and I was reasonably relaxed throughout the journey. Son no1 wasn't very well yesterday but I've made him go in for his first lesson of Maths this morning but he has games this afternoon. No doubt the little bu@@er will be on the bus coming back home in half an hour!
      Anyone want some sardines?

      • Mornin n'all !
Yep...managed to have a late morning for a change

Hope everyone with poorly bits get sorted soon...not nice.

Hibou update for anyone still interested???
She's much the same but off her food a bit. We think she's getting a bit depressed , so for the past 4 days OH has taken her out with him when he does the chooks in the morning ( as used to be her daily constitutional)

We were all very wary but she was glad to come back indoors again.
Yesterday she 'helped' my OH gardening for an hour or so but wouldn't leave his side.
Being out has certainly cheered her up and helped with her appetite .

It's such a shame for her....slowly slowly eh?

        • Definately good to get her out Nicos. I don't like leaving Stan at home if I'm going out, collies like company so he comes with me in the car and looks out the back window. He loves the pub too

          • Morning all, had a good night with wee Alfie but although he is drinking he is not eating...how do you coax a dog to eat?!!

Glad to hear Hibou is still doing ok. Has she lost her confidence about going out or are you to scared to let her out Nicos?

Another lovely sunshiny day and the frost is still on the ground, love these mornings. 28 years ago today number two child was born. It was a sunshiny day then but there was snow on the ground. Although he is in San Diego enjoying the beautiful weather he is 'depressed' that he is turning 28! Give me the sun and being 28 again any day!

Hope you all have a lovely day. Hope the toothache is better Carrie!

I am for one. Poor wee thing has had an awful time of it but if she's out doing some gardening that will perk her up.

One of the biggest pleasure's our old lady gave us when she was around was keeping us company when we were out.

              • Thoughts to the vine pets, Hibou and Alfie. Nice to hear that Hibou has been enjoying some gardening and being outdoors must be good for her. I don't know how you would coax a dog to eat except for giving him something especially appealing. My parents have a very fussy eater dog (not ill just fussy) but he always eats fish when they give it to him.

                Hope the toothache improves Carrie.

Nice sunny day again. I wish I could take advantage of it but I have a mountain of work to get through so will enjoy it through the window instead
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

                  • Thanks guys, manage to go back to sleep this morning for a few hours. It's not to bad now, but can't eat properly on that side of the mouth because the tooth is really sensitive.

Looking threw my seed box at the moment. Seeing what else I can grow on my windowsill. I miss having a garden when it's sunny outside.

Its only a number! Being young is a state of mind, not a date on your birth certificate.

                        • Hmm, I'm not so sure VC. When I was 28 I could party all night! Last time I went to friends for dinner I couldn't be @rsed to put my shoes on so I went in my "house shoes" (aka slippers )!

                          • Jay....Hibou has certainly lost her confidence..and we are being wary of her deciding to go off into the woods hunting.
The main problem is her eye.
( don't read on if you are eating!!! )
The inner lid is paralysed so constantly closed covering over half her vision. Yep...she's going to have to learn to cope with restricted vision, but that's very doable .
But...because it's very swollen she can't close her normal lids so it dries out and gets raw unless we put false tears ( ie gloop!) in regularly.,in this chill wind it's a concern in case it gets more sore.

We're following one of the specialists advice of not having her on antibiotics but saliva is still pouring out of her eye and a hole in the front of her neck.
Oh...and she's off her food a bit too she was 5kg and is now 3.5kg

...raw meat seams to be her answer.Little and often.

Here's an experience we had many years ago...
My in laws used to have deerhounds and they all seemed to get impacted anal gland so when out cat had a lump on her anus we took her to a cat vet who said it was actually a tumour, she could operate and remove it but then Bod ( short for Boddington's bitter) would be incontinent of faeces .
Best to leave well alone she said. So we did.
A few months later it had steadily got larger.

One day he came home covered in cat bites and scratches...most of which, as usual became infected, so we took him to her for antibiotics.
However he'd got an almighty tear over the site of the tumour and she suggested leaving the antibiotics and see what happened.
Yup...massive abcess (poor lad ) which eventually burst.
However the tumour is what had rotted in the abcess. Absolutely no sign of it, nor did it return.
                            Interesting idea which worked.
(And yeh...I recently read about the idea of maybe injecting toxins into tumours to see how they respond.)

Give Alfie a hug from me xx

                            • I'd go with the raw meat too for Alfie. If you can't stomach that, open a tin of sardines I share mine with Stan who is a very fussy eater.

                              • Poor animals, Jay peanut butter is used as a natural dog treat in lots of homemade dog biscuits, couldn´t hurt. Or chicken often does the trick even though we do not eat meat, there is always emergency chicken in the freezer.

Sounds funny but could you make a eye patch for when Hibou goes outside, most likely she will push it off but would stop the wind drying it out.

My 2 little boys come everywhere with me, i cant even go to the loo without them sitting at the door, i hate leaving them at home as i know they just sit waiting for us. Dusty on the other hand really does not care, he is happy doing anything but has really stupid moments when he gets really scared but he would rather hide than be with us, little ones if they are scared have to be carried, i even have a sling type thing i made out of an old scarf that i can walk around with them and do my jobs.
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them
