  • Just back from a lovely walk to the plot. Bright and breezy, but wait for it, the sun felt warm on my back as we walked up there. Couple of other plot holders working too. Restaked the PSB and dug parsnips for tea.
Got the washing in which smells beautifully outdoorsy, if you know what I mean. So much better than drying indoors.

    • Was a lovely sunny afternoon, so went down the cemetary to take off Dads December wreath - bit late I know
Swapped his flowers for a red/orange/cream bouquet (silk) and anchored them down
Then made a little trip to the GC, of COURSE we bought seed potatoes. A little over £12 and we were out of there.
Next to BM. Got some weed killer and new flowers for Dad -lovely shades of pink and white lol.
Hubby bought himself a deep fat fryer and is setting it up in the garage as we speak.
I hate the smell of frying indoors, so Kens Garage Kitchen is fine with me.
Then, our poorly daughter asked if we would like dinner at the local Carvery. We will be paying of course.
She has hardly eaten anything for a week or so, couldn't refuse could we.
Right, so roast beef will be posted in the Cooking Tonight tomorrow .

      • Call from son. Mum someones given me 2 pheasants can you deal with them? me: When were they killed so I know how long to hang them for. Him: yesterday. Me: OK bring them over.

Oooh. Even though I live in a rural town and know lots of farmers and their workers, it has become increasingly difficult to get wild meat. It mostly goes to supermarkets.

When I was first married and money was tight, my husbands duck, pheasants, rabbits and hare helped the household budget no end. No we didn't eat them all. He'd bring them home and I'd pluck and dress them for a local butcher. The money we got helped to pay the bills. He wasn't a poacher, they were from the family farm.

        • Good evening all. We must have drawn the short straw today with the weather. Dull, grey, windy snd very heavy rsin showers.
Spent most of the afternoon ironing all the clothes thst built up since I started decorating the bedroom.
Its so easy to throw everything ino the washing machine but so time conduming when it comes to the ironing.
          anyway, all done now.
On the upside, my bedroom is finished except for some little cosmetic bits and bobs so I am well pleased with my hatd work.

            • Right - better shift m'self.

Roast potato and pumpkin, I think, to go with the marinaded-for-three-days pork chop.

Then I'm putting my pinny on as the cake tin is bare. I'll have to nip to A1di first for flaked almonds or the 'cherry and almond bake' will be a bit one sided. Actually, I need cherries too - otherwise the 'cherry and almond bake' will be - er - 'bake'.

              Right - onwards!

              • Heavy rain again here and the wind is really strong. It was sad again watching those beautiful trees being felled. The bank looks so bare, but I suppose the grass will grow better. I'll miss the squirrels dashing about. Dinner smells delicious Nicos, hope you're leaving a chair empty for absent friends

                • So it would appear that A1di no longer sell glace cherries, which rather puts the mockers on the cherryh and almond tray bake - but thinking on my feet, I'm doing a bakewell instead.

I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Turn your phone off. I might be pricking your self-important bubble here, but if you are not in work tomorrow - sorry - but no one actually cares.

Anything vital you will have had the conscience to have covered - or you would not have had the day off. Suppliers will phone back Monday (when you can ignore them in person). Colleagues may curse you - but only the tiniest bit.

Have your entire attention on your family day - it will do you far more good than half an eye on the day off, and half an eye on what you perceive that you might be missing out on.

Even the taoiseach (tea-shop? tee shock?) has a holiday, and his job - begging your pardon - is bigger than yours. Reflected in his pay packed being many times yours, I would have thought.

Oh - perhaps you *are* the tee chuck! Then I'd have to frown at your wanton indulgence of taking a working day off, and I'd sanction leaving your phone on - just in case a red button suddenly needs pressing, or something.
