Update!
Well this is all bizarre.................a puzzler for your brother AP.
All wired up as advised and working in a strange fashion.
Switched machine on & depressed pedal - Zilch, Nada, Nowt.
Kept foot on pedal & switched machine on - Yeh, it works.
Take my foot off pedal - It bladdy switches off...........so basically I have to press the pedal then press the machines switch to get it working, I then have to keep my foot on the pedal whilst working (which is fine as I'm used to using a sewing machine). I just wish it would stay on when I take my foot off the pedal...........so confusing.
Thanks again for the advice, I'll put up with it for a while & if I'm not happy I'll get a SkeggiJon model................Last edited by Bigmallly; 06-01-2016, 10:00 AM.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

That's called a dead man's handle BM. when you lean to far forward in your excitement and the blade starts cutting into your head the pain will cause you to dance around a bit and hence the power will be cut.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

BM
The micro switch in the pedal will automatically revert to the normally closed (black wire) connection when you take your foot of the pedal cutting off power to the normally open connection (red wire). So that is working correctly though not providing the function you require, like Bill posted a safety feature.
I am not sure but I don't think they make a foot pedal that stay on when the foot is removed H&S you know.
Can I presume the switch on the machine is a push button type. If so that to is working correctly, they will not hold in unless there is power to the switch before you push the button another safety device. They are made that way so that if power to the machine is cut for any reason the switch automatically resets to the off position so that when power is restored the machine does not start up unexpectedly. The only way to defeat this would be to wire out the machine switch and wire the foot pedal direct to the machine.
Not the news you wanted I am afraid, I would ask SJ how is switch works before purchasing one.Potty by name Potty by nature.

Cheers Potty, it's good to know that it is working as it should. I would assume SJ's will be the same.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Another thought pass's my old brain.
If anyone has what you want it would be RS Components Ltd a call to their customer services might provide good information have the info about your machine to hand.
Having thought about things I may have to go back on my previous post about no one making a switch that stays on when pressed. I am sure somewhere I have heard reference to 'momentary' and 'latching' switches the latter being the type you want.Potty by name Potty by nature.

I think the one I bought is a momentary switch which I was lead to believe that you press it once for on then press again for off...........maybe the saw switch has something to do with it.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

I really must read things properly. This is the one I bought & it does state "Features nonslip surface improve safety and reduce foot fatigue.
Hands-free operation of table routers, scroll saws, drill presses, lathes, and rotary tools.
Momentary type switch pedal, press down to turn on, lift foot to turn off."

The one I have would be perfect if I could bypass the machines switches or have it in permanent on mode but that's a whole different ballgameLast edited by Bigmallly; 06-01-2016, 09:41 PM.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Ere yer go BM .... Heavy Duty Latching Foot Switch | Maplin ... & get one of these & mount it on the saw ... 6.35mm Mono Jack Socket with Solder Tags | Maplin ... you will then have an easily detachable foot switch for storage when not in useHe who smiles in the face of adversity, has already decided who to blame

If you don't want to go down the latching switch route & are happy to bypass the DOL switch on the machine, simply connect the DOL switch supply side wire to the com on the foot switch, disconnect the "out" side of the DOL & connect that to the NO on the foot switch.
It is VERY important to point out that by disconnecting a wire from the DOL not only will the on function cease to work the stop button will also NOT function. He who smiles in the face of adversity, has already decided who to blame

It's a shame what seemed to be the perfect solution is turning out to be very awkward. Maybe you with all your inventive talents could devise a way of operating the original switch on the machine with some form of lever which could be made foot operated?Last edited by Bill HH; 06-01-2016, 10:20 PM.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html
